Hello NMS Families,

What a fun and spirited week at NMS! Our students and staff had a great time participating in Spirit Week, showing off their school spirit and creativity throughout the week!

We also came together for a great cause! Our Student Council sold pink breast cancer awareness bracelets to benefit the Ellie Fund, and students and staff filled the halls with pink for our Pink Out Day. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this important cause!

Our ELA classes got into the Halloween spirit by creating literary pumpkins inspired by characters from books. The creativity was incredible! Be sure to check out the pictures below to see their amazing work.

We also conducted a fire drill this week. We will continue practicing our safety drills throughout the year to ensure students and staff are prepared and know what to do in the event of an emergency.

On Monday, we will have the the return of our famous NMS Candy Monster! Each year, our Candy Monster takes up residence in the lobby and happily collects unwanted Halloween candy. We then donate the candy to Operation Troop Support, which sends care packages to our military service members overseas. Please feel free to start sending in your extra candy next week. It's a great way to put those extra treats to good use!

Our Glass Card Digital Discount Fundraiser is off to a great start, and our 5th and 7th graders are doing an excellent job selling cards! We'd love to see more of our 6th and 8th graders get involved, too. The money raised goes directly into each grade level's activity fund, helping pay for field trips, transportation, and special experiences. For our 8th graders, these funds will help make a special spring event possible! For our 6th graders, it would decrease the cost of Nature's Classroom!

Each Glass Card costs $25 (plus a $1.02 processing fee) and provides access to discounts at local and national businesses through a convenient digital app. It's a great way to save money while supporting our students! Families and friends can purchase a card using the fundraiser link shared with families or by scanning the QR code on the flyer sent home with students. Every purchase helps support memorable experiences for our students. Thank you for your support!

A few important reminders as we head into November:

As always, thank you for your continued support of NMS. Enjoy the pictures below highlighting another great week at our school! Have a wonderful weekend!

Donate your Candy!

The Candy Monster is back and better than ever! What will it look like this year? You'll have to wait and see!

Don't let that extra Halloween candy go to waste! From November 2 through November 17, NMS will be collecting candy to help bring smiles to the faces of our military service members and veterans.

The donated candy will be used to create care packages for members of all branches of the military and veterans through Operation Troop Support. Students and families are also encouraged to make cards or write letters of appreciation. Mrs. Larochelle will make sure these heartfelt messages are included with the care packages!

Additional Donations Needed

This year, we are also collecting the following items to include in the packages:

  • Personal Care: Travel sized shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, tissues, cotton swabs, and bandages

  • Clothing: Crew socks and handkerchiefs

  • Entertainment: Playing cards, puzzle books, and paperback books

  • Writing Supplies: Notepads, pens, pencils, envelopes, and stamps

About Operation Troop Support

Established in March 2003 and headquartered in Danvers, Massachusetts, Operation Troop Support is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military personnel and their families across the country.

The organization provides care packages to deployed troops, supplies comfort items to military hospitals, coordinates holiday gift programs, supports military families, and raises awareness of the sacrifices made by our service members and their loved ones.

Thank you for helping NMS spread kindness and show our appreciation to those who serve our country!

Yarn Dolls

Students on 5 Red brought Esperanza Rising to life this week by creating their own yarn dolls! Using the directions straight from the novel, students followed along to make dolls just like Mama did in the story. Everyone had a great time participating in this hands-on activity and making a special connection to the book!

Digital Discount Card Fundraiser

We are excited to kick off our two-week NMS Digital Discount Card Fundraiser! This is a great opportunity to save money while supporting our students! Grade 8 Visit to NMRHS

Nissitissit eighth graders visited the North Middlesex Regional High School on Tuesday, October 20th. They met with Principal Smith, toured the state-of-the-art facility, asked phenomenal questions of their upperclassmen tour guides, chatted with student ambassadors, and spent time with Pat the Patriot! Our students especially enjoyed checking out the weight room, meandering through the science labs, and admiring the cafeteria’s panini press! Eighth graders even had the opportunity to participate in a Kahoot tournament, testing their newfound knowledge about NM in the beautiful performing arts center. Shout-out to Mrs. Hanson's homeroom for winning the much-anticipated trivia contest! We understand that the process of starting high school may feel daunting - we hope that the extensive tour and presentation allowed our eighth graders to become more familiar with the high school's physical layout, schedule, staff, course selection, and fantastic extracurriculars. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the field trip and learned a lot about the overarching high school experience in our district - many even reported that they now cannot wait for ninth grade!
