SUPERINTENDENT: After summer of upgrades, ready for new school year
Sedalia 200 Community,
Allow me to take the opportunity to welcome everyone back for another exciting school year! Summer seems to always fly right on by and never seems quite long enough. While some are waiting with great anticipation, others are dreading the end of summer break. Well, like it or not, it is almost that time again! As we progress and count down these last days of freedom, Sedalia School District 200 and the Sedalia 200 Board of Education will work together to provide a fantastic school year.
Building improvements
If anyone has been paying attention while driving around town, they will have noticed quite a bit of construction and renovations. The junior high gym annex building received a complete and long-overdue makeover. The Sedalia Middle School also received a new roof, windows, and interior facelift in phase two of that building’s plan. Skyline, Parkview, and SMS also received new all-weather turf playgrounds. Now all of our elementary schools will enjoy a much cleaner, dryer, and safer environment. Washington, Horace Mann, and Heber Hunt all got restroom and plumbing renovations that were also long overdue. The Smith-Cotton High School parking lots were all resurfaced and additional concrete bus lanes were added as well as in high traffic areas. While the district’s long-range facilities plan still has more projects and improvements in the works, the district has made great strides in making improvements across the district.
The truth about those rumors
There have been a lot of rumors circulating about the district starting school late due to the ongoing construction projects, especially at SMS. This is not in the district’s plans and school is scheduled to start on Aug. 21 as planned. There may be lingering items to be completed, but we are confident that even SMS will be ready to accept students. I would only ask for your patience during our growing pains and improvements. Speaking of patience, I would ask all parents of SMS students - and, by the way, this includes me - to be cautious and understanding during drop-off and pick-up times at SMS. We are doubling the amount of students in this building and thus doubling the amount of traffic. Please follow directions from security and administration concerning these processes. We will work hard to improve as we navigate these challenges. Remember, this building once held three grades levels when it was an actual middle school. It can be done.
Upholding new state laws
Let me close by letting you know the Missouri Legislature passed literally dozens of new legal requirements for schools to follow. The task of educating students in this modern world far exceeds reading, writing, and arithmetic. Today, schools are required to do so much more than just teach, but teach we shall! One of the biggest challenges schools will face is the new cell phone/communication device ban that takes effect this year. It is basically a zero tolerance ban from the beginning of the day to dismissal. The district needs the support of our parents in order to effectively manage this new law. Enforcing this ban will be no small task for teachers and administrators. We appreciate our parents' help!
Welcome back and may the 2025-2026 school year be one filled with success!
Dr. Todd Fraley
Superintendent, Sedalia School District 200

HEALTH SERVICES: Immunization requirements, prescription plans
- Remember that students CANNOT attend school the FIRST day without an up-to-date immunization record or proper exemption on file. Students who already have an up-to-date immunization record on file or exemption, do NOT have to submit them again. Kindergarteners, new students, and students entering 8th and 12th grade will need to have updated records. If you have not already done so, get these completed and the immunization record or exemption to the school nurse or district office ASAP. We want all students to be able to attend the first day! To learn more about required immunizations, go to the Health Services page on the district website by clicking HERE.
- Also, remember that a new prescription authorization or EAP (Emergency Action Plan) must be completed each school year. This includes all over-the-counter medications, as well. If you will have medication to drop off for the 25-26 school year, the nurses will be in their buildings before the first day of school. Please plan to drop off all medication and inhalers prior to the first day of school. This will allow for a smoother first day for everyone. You can access the prescription authorization and other health forms on our district website under Health Services.
- Finally, if your child has health condition, be certain to advise their school bus driver so they have awareness in case of an emergency.
