The Weekly Highlander
Volume #19
A Message from the Principal
It was a busy first week back on campus. We held our Student Behavior Expectations Assembly on Wednesday with Ms.Swain reviewing student expectations. Students have started their second semester of the year and we will begin to talk about registration for next year and course selection in February. Starting on January 26th, we will be highlighting an elective each day through morning announcements and via emails home to parents and students. The goal is to give our community information about all of the options before asking them to pick their top two choices and one alternate. More information will be coming to you before these decisions must be made but we want you to start thinking about what electives your student would like to take next year.
Please consider supporting our PTA by eating at Wyse Guys between January 14th - 18th. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for details on how to have a portion of your purchase go back to Hewes. Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

Why My Mom Deserves a Diamond Competition
A huge congratulations goes to William, Jane, Alyssa and Audrey in Miss Moffat's core class! They all entered the Why My Mom Deserves a Diamond poetry competition hosted by The Gallery of Diamonds. Diamond Mike loves to honour mothers because of his amazing mother who adopted him. Each year this competition is run, they receive thousands of entries. One diamond winner is chosen from them all. Other students win garnets and amethysts. This year, William, Alyssa and Audrey won garnets and Jane won an amethyst. They will be picking up their prize in February.
