WOW! We have completed goal #1 of the school year! First Marking Period has been completed. Please keep in mind that the beginning of the year is a review of last school year's skills and a stepping stone for the skills to come this year. Your child has been assessed with our Acadience Screener to help your child's teacher learn what your child's current functioning level is in English Language Arts.

Your child's grades will be posted on the Parent Portal on Friday, November 13, 2026. There will be Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, November 16, 2026 for those parents/guardians that signed up for appointments.

Did you know that two to four missed days in the first month of school increases the likelihood of chronic absence throughout the year?

Regular school attendance plays a vital role in your child's academic and personal growth. Being consistently present at school facilitates steady progress in their learning journey, ensuring that no crucial piece of knowledge or skill is missed.

Facts About the Impact of Poor Attendance

  • Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
  • Chronic absence is estimated to now affect one out of three students.
  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
  • By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
  • Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.

Why is Attending School Important?

School is not just a space for academic learning, it is where children cultivate social skills, form meaningful friendships, and develop a sense of responsibility and belonging that will serve them well throughout their lives. As we progress through the school year, we urge you to prioritize regular attendance to ensure that your child can reap the full benefits of the comprehensive educational experience that our school strives to offer.

Tips and Practices for Helping Support Your Child’s Consistent School Attendance

  • Avoid scheduling vacations when school is in session.
  • Build regular routines for bedtimes and the mornings.
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school.
  • Don’t permit missing school unless your child is sick.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or your school principal for advice on how to help your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Avoid medical appointments when school is in session or make them at a time that your child can attend school for one-session (4 hours).
  • Develop back up plans for getting your child to school if something comes up. Ask a family member, neighbor or another family for help.

October: Healthy Mouths, Happy Communication!

October is here! For some families, this means Halloween costumes, candy, and sweet treats, while others celebrate different traditions or do not observe Halloween at all. Whatever your family’s traditions, this is a great time to talk about keeping our mouths healthy!

Did you know oral health plays a role in speech?
Our lips, tongue, teeth, and jaw work together to help us eat, smile, and speak. Healthy teeth and gums are important for overall well-being, and dental concerns, such as missing teeth or damaged teeth, can sometimes affect how children produce certain speech sounds.

Turn toothbrushing into language-building time!
Daily routines offer wonderful opportunities to support your child’s communication skills. Here are a few ideas to try at home:

  • Talk through the routine: Describe what you’re doing together and name the parts of the mouth. “Let’s put toothpaste on the brush. Brush your top teeth, now the bottom teeth!”

  • Explore in the mirror: Look at your lips, teeth, and tongue together. Talk about what you see and how different parts of the mouth move when speaking.

  • Build vocabulary: Introduce words like bristles, gums, rinse, etc.

  • Practice sequencing: Ask your child “What do we do first?” Practice using words like first, next, then, and last to describe steps.

  • Make it a conversation: Talk about why we brush our teeth, what foods help keep our bodies healthy, and why visiting the dentist is important.

Remember, supporting language development doesn’t require extra time or special materials. Everyday moments, even brushing our teeth, can become meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and communicate!

Wishing all our families a happy, healthy October filled with smiles, learning, and meaningful communication!
