Stevenson High School
September 25, 2026
Dear Stevenson Families and Students,
We have officially wrapped up our fifth week of school. The fifth week of the semester is an important milestone. By now, our classroom routines are well established, fall sports, marching band, and extracurricular activities are in full swing, and our students are settling into the rhythm of the academic year.
As we reach this mid-point of the first marking period, it is time for our students to dig in, reflect on their current progress, and make full use of the academic and personal support systems available at Stevenson. To help keep students on track, families are encouraged to regularly review academic progress and upcoming assignments on MiStar ParentConnect, ensure students utilize Spartan Time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, monitor attendance and tardies, and reach out directly to teachers or counselors whenever support is needed. We encourage every student to evaluate their habits and seek help early rather than waiting until the end of the marking period.
Excitement is building across the school as our Student Senate and class officers prepare for Homecoming Week. Homecoming is one of our most cherished traditions, bringing together students, staff, alumni, and families.
To ensure that all students represent Stevenson with pride, please keep in mind our key participation requirements.
Attendance at the Homecoming Dance and related events requires students to be in good academic standing, maintain consistent attendance, and uphold a clean behavioral record in alignment with our school-wide expectations and code of conduct.
We urge families to log in to MiStar ParentConnect this weekend alongside your student. Take a moment to review attendance records and current assignment marks so there are no surprises as Homecoming approaches.
Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and support at home. Together, we are building a school year defined by growth, achievement, and strong community connections.
Pete Kotsogiannis
Principal

Congratulations SHS 2026-27 NHS Inductees
Thank you to Mrs. Wojtyniak for her many years of NHS Leadership
A Heartfelt Thank You to Mrs. Wojtyniak
Please join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Wojtyniak for her extraordinary dedication, enthusiasm, and leadership as our National Honor Society Adviser for the past 13 years.
Throughout her time in this role, Mrs. Wojtyniak has guided and encouraged countless students, helped create meaningful leadership opportunities, and instilled in our students the importance of service, scholarship, character, and leadership. Her commitment to NHS has made a lasting impact—not only on the students she has supported, but on our entire school community.
As she passes the NHS Adviser role to Ms. Ware and its next chapter, we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and heart she has poured into this program. Thank you, Mrs. Wojtyniak, for 13 remarkable years of making a difference. Your legacy will continue through the many students whose lives you have touched and inspired.

2026-2027 FAFSA
Haven't Completed the FAFSA Yet?? No Problem!
This school year saw delays & complications with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Thankfully that is all behind us and financial aid reports have been sending to college & trade school financial aid offices since April. If you have a graduating senior, assist their completion of the FAFSA with the resources below. There has never been a better time for students to use state & federal aid to pay for postsecondary costs. Remember, by filling out the FAFSA you are not accepting loans; your student may be eligible for free money in the form of Grants, Scholarships, Michigan Tuition Assistance Program & the Michigan Achievement Scholarship. The only way to utilize this free financial aid is to do the first step - complete the FAFSA.

Student Assistance Provider: Stephanie Manske
My name is Stephanie Manske, and I am the Student Assistance Provider at Stevenson High School. In my role, I work to support our students’ emotional and social well-being. This semester, we are offering a variety of support groups designed to assist students dealing with grief, anxiety and substance use. We also have a group for new students.
These groups are available to students based on recommendations from teachers and counselors, responses from our student survey, or through student self-referral. Participation is entirely voluntary, and the groups will run for 8-10 weeks.
If you do not wish for your student to participate in one of these support groups, please let me know. However, if you believe your son or daughter would benefit from one of these opportunities, I encourage you to reach out to me directly at smanske@livoniapublicschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support of your student’s well-being. I look forward to working together to ensure a positive and supportive experience for all of our students.

Question on the Week
What can I do to best support my daughter/son when they refuse to go to school?
It’s not surprising if your child complains about going to school from time to time. Maybe they’re nervous about a math test or a presentation. That’s inevitable.
But when fear and anxiety regularly keep your child from getting on the bus, walking into the building or staying in class, it’s likely something more than just a case of the jitters.
Pediatrician Ellen Rome, MD, and child psychiatrist Joseph Austerman, DO, explain what school refusal is, why it happens and how you can help your child approach school with confidence in the article School Refusal: When Anxiety Causes Kids to Avoid School.
