Welcome Back Fernbrook Flyers!
Everyone here at Fernbrook is so excited to welcome all of our Fernbrook Flyers back for the 2026-2027 school year! Let's make this year AMAZING!
A note from the principal
Hello Flyer Nation!
We could not be more exited to welcome you back to Fernbrook for the 26-27 school year! As you know there has been a lot of work done at Fernbrook this summer…….new media center, flex rooms, Makerspace…..OH MY!!!. That work is almost complete, the new district standard furniture has been delivered to each classroom, and our teachers are excited to meet their new students. At Open House on 9/2/26 between 4-5:30, we will have reps from such departments/services as Kidstop, Transportation, Food Service, and others, they will be in the gym at tables, stop in with your questions that night. And oh yeah…make sure you go see the new media center!!
Now, with all of the shifting and changing of school boundaries from last year to this year, as a last-minute disaster check, make sure that you are 100% certain that you are zoned to be at Fernbrook this year, and not another Maple Grove Elementary. If you are not 100% certain, go to the district website at https://www.osseoschools.org/, and click on the word “ENROLL”, and follow the School Finder link. The last thing anyone wants is a kiddo excited and/or nervous for their first day to wind up at the wrong school.
For those assigned to Fernbrook, can’t wait to meet or see you again soon! Mr. Z…..OUT 😊
Open House
Information
As Mr. Zastrow mentioned above, Open House is Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00-5:30. Open house is such an exciting time. You get to meet your fabulous teacher, see your new classroom, catch up with friends you haven't seen over the summer and this year you get to check out the updated media center including the new makerspace area AND the new outdoor learning space between the two playgrounds! Please bring all your school supplies with you to open house, it makes the first day of school much easier. Can't make it to open house? No problem at all. We will have staff ready and willing all around the first few days of school to help any students who are unsure of where they should go.

Teacher Assignments
Who will be my teacher this year?
We are working hard to get each student placed in a classroom. Classroom assignments will be released for 1st through 5th grade via ParentVUE on September 1st at 3:30pm. Kindergarten will receive a letter from their teacher in the mail.
When signing into ParentVUE for the first time each year, you will need to go through the process of verifying your information. You will need to review and update each student, parent and emergency contact. We know it is a cumbersome process but it is a great way to update all of your information to make sure we can keep in contact with you so your child remains safe and you stay in the know!
Busing Information
When does the bus pick up my student?
Final busing information will be available via ParentVue August 27th. The information will also be emailed out to families on August 28th. You should have received an email from the Osseo Transportation Department informing you of your student's bus stop earlier in August. This finalized information will include the bus number, the time the bus will pick up the student before school and the time it will drop the student off after school. If you have busing questions please contact the Osseo's transportation department via email at busquestions@district279.org.
FirstView App
Firstview is an app you can use to track your student's bus. Download it from the App Store or Google Play Store (look for the logo that matches the one to the right.) We all know Minnesota can get cold, this tool is very helpful to see how long you'll need to wait for the bus. It is also the first place that notifications are sent in case of a delay. Once downloaded you will need a district code and student id number. Both can be found in ParentVUE under Student Information.
Talking Points
School Communication Tool
Fernbrook and Osseo Area Schools uses the communication tool called Talking Points. Talking Points is an app you can download from the App Store or Google Play Store (look for the logo that matches the one to the right.) Any time we have an announcement from school, it can be something little like a dress up day or something good that happened at Fernbrook to more important information like a snow day or a (minor) emergency we get the information out through Talking Points. Reminder: If you have already downloaded the Talking Points app, please make sure the App is up to date and notifications are turned ON!
Attendance
My student will not be at school today.
Option 1. Call the front office at 763-420-8888. Press 1 and that will bring you to the attendance line.
Option 2. Sign into ParentVUE. Click the blue report absence button. Enter in the information.
Please remember to always report your student absent or late to school through one of these options before 10:00am each day. It is great to also let the teacher know but we often don't hear from the teachers so the absence gets missed.
I need to change my student's dismissal.
If you are changing the way your student is getting home on any given day you must call the front office and let us know. If we do not hear from the parent/guardian we cannot change their dismissal. Teachers do not always get their messages throughout the day especially if it is later in the afternoon after their break. All dismissal changes need to be communicated to the front office before 2:45.
School Hours
Students can arrive at Fernbrook no earlier than 8:30 am. Students need to be picked up from Fernbrook by 3:30 pm. We do not have supervision for students outside of these hours. If a student arrives before 8:30 am they will need to wait outside. If you are going to be late picking up your student please call or send a Talking Point message.
Volunteers
I want to help at school.
Throughout the year there are many opportunities for volunteers at Fernbrook -whether in the classroom, lunchroom, media center, at all school events or on field trips. To be sure we keep our students safe all volunteers MUST have an approved Raptor volunteer application on file BEFORE volunteering. Completing your application now will help ensure you're ready to get involved from day one!
Please note: A Raptor volunteer application needs to be completed each year, if you volunteered last year a new form will need to be filled out for this school year.
Click on the picture above to the right or the volunteer button below to begin your application.
