Scott Winfield, after leading Adair to two gold balls and 17 girls state basketball tournaments, is stepping down after 21 seasons as the Lady Warriors' basketball coach.

Coach Winfield will continue teaching PE and coaching the Adair girls track and cross country teams — a position he also has had for 21 years.

'When you know it's time, it's time," Winfield said Tuesday. "I've been kind of thinking about it for six months. I think it's the best thing for everybody."

Adair finished a 21-3 season two weeks ago in the 3A quarterfinals at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena, which was in its final season of hosting state tournament games. "It was a last hurrah for both of us," Winfield said. "Finishing at the state tournament, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way."

Winfield started his coaching career as an assistant for five years at Vinita and then moved on to Salina for three years before being hired by Adair in 2004. At both of those previous stops he also was a football assistant.

As the girls basketball coach, Scott Winfield led Adair to 15 consecutive Class 3A state berths from 2006-20. After a three-year absence from state, Adair returned the past two seasons.

Winfield's career record, that also includes three seasons at Salina, is 503-149. In 2019, he was the Tulsa World's state girls basketball coach of the year and the All-World coach of the year for all girls teams in all sports. He led Adair to state titles in 2009 and '19, and to the title game in 2007 and '14.

Winfield coached Adair to its only girls cross country title in 2017.

"I've been coaching three sports for 29 years," Winfield said. "I stepped away from the one that monopolized most of my time, that can be a grueling schedule. "But it's been a great run and I've had a lot of fun."

BHE had their Read-a-thon assembly to recognize all the students and teachers that worked so hard. They recognized a student from each class that read the most pages, the class that raised the most money, the class that read the most pages and multiple winners from raising enough money to go in a drawing for a prize. Thank you to PTO for helping put on this event and to the community for the amazing donations.

Adair, OK, March 24, 2025 – Adair Public Schools is a 2025 Casey’s Cash for Classrooms grant recipient.

The school will receive $24,000 to provide bookcases for the school’s new elementary library. This

project will serve students and teachers by making a complete renewal of the library possible.

“We are grateful to receive a Cash for Classrooms grant from Casey’s and are excited to complete this

important library project that will improve our students’ ability to learn and grow at Adair’s Bernita

Hughes Elementary School each day,” said school superintendent Mark Lippe. “Casey’s is a great

community partner that works with and gives back to our schools in many ways, including through this

program.”

"Through Casey's Cash for Classrooms program, our grants are providing meaningful impact, helping

create better learning environments and improving the lives of children and educators. Casey’s is

grateful to be in a position to provide support for our communities and the schools and families, who

work tirelessly to prepare our next generation of leaders,” said Katie Petru, Director of PR and

Communications at Casey’s.

The library is a part of the new elementary facility made possible through community support for the

district’s most recent bond issue. The current phase of construction is expected to be completed by the

time school starts in August 2025.
