Reunification Drill on April 15, 2026
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Sunset Heights Elementary School will conduct an onsite reunification drill as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our school’s emergency preparedness. This drill will take place on the school’s scheduled early release day. The purpose of this exercise is to practice the process we would use to safely reunite students with their parents or guardians during a real emergency situation. School staff will be working alongside local first responders and district personnel to simulate the process and ensure that our procedures are effective.
What parents and guardians need to know:
Students who ride the bus or walk home will not be impacted and will be dismissed following the normal early release procedures.
Parents/guardians who pick up their child will participate in the reunification process as part of the drill.
Those picking up students will be asked to park and walk up to the school rather than using the normal pickup line.
Parents/guardians must bring a valid photo ID in order to be reunified with their child as part of the drill.
Staff will guide parents/guardians through the reunification process to practice how students would be safely released during an emergency.
These drills are an important part of ensuring that our school community is prepared and that students can be reunited with their families in a safe, organized, and efficient manner if an emergency were ever to occur.
We appreciate your cooperation and participation as we work to keep our students and school community safe. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Book Club
I’d like to invite you to join a small parent book club where we’ll come together to read and discuss The Anxious Generation.
In this timely and thought-provoking book, author Jonathan Haidt explores how childhood has changed in the age of smartphones and social media—and how these shifts may be impacting students’ mental health, attention, and overall well-being. The book offers research, practical ideas and a starting point for meaningful conversations about how we can support kids today. I have 20 copies of The Anxious Generation available. Books will be given to the first 20 families to complete the survey, so please respond by April 17 so books can go home before break and we can plan to meet in May.
Also, I have 20 copies of The Amazing Generation, which is geared toward 4th and 5th graders. If you are a parent/guardian of a 4th or 5th grade student and would like a copy to read and talk about with your child, please indicate that on the survey as well. These copies will also be provided to the first 20 families who request them through the survey.
Even if you don’t receive a book copy, you’re still welcome to join the discussion in May—just let us know on the survey so we can include you in the plans and share meeting details.
Please take a moment to complete the attached survey (or the survey link) by April 17.
Thank you—I’m looking forward to reading and learning together!
We are beginning to see more smart watches and phones here at school. Please be reminded of the NSD Board Policy https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1753909648/nashuaedu/dig9dy5rsnpu7yumz81s/JICJ_Student_Use_of_Personal_Electronics.pdf .
PTO News
Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4- May 8): We are in need of raffle basket items for teacher appreciation week raffle prizes. we would like to have 8 confirmed before 4/17/2026 as it is school vacation week the week before appreciation week. The teachers really enjoyed the raffles and prizes last year. If you'd like to help in another way, we'd love that, too! There's a lot of little pieces that make that week great for our teachers! Thank You in advance!
Our Stinger PTO is happy to put teacher appreciation items together if you would rather volunteer financially. If that is easier for you, the link is here: https://sunsetnohassle.cheddarup.com.
