SEL Theme for April is CONFIDENCE!
Take a look at suggestions from our SEL Team below. π½
Here are some things you can do to help your child learn to cooperate with others:
- Play games where they need to take turns.
- Have them help you build or make something. It could be working together on a lego set, cooking or baking something, assembling a puzzleβ¦
- Schedule a time where all family members can work together on something, it could even be household chores!
- Praise them when you see them working with others. βYou and your sister worked so hard cleaning up all those toys.β
Books about cooperation:
- Duck In The Truck By Jez Alborough
- Day At The Beach By Tom Booth
- Mighty, Mighty Construction Site By Sherri Duskey Rinker
- Itβs Mine! By Leo Lionni
- Up The Creek By Nicholas Oldland
- The Little Red Hen By Lucinda McQueen
- Prince And Pirate By Julia Cook
7th Social Skill Lesson-Bullying
2nd Graders will be learning about bullying in the month of April. All year leading up to this lesson, students have explored concepts of inclusion, acceptance, assertiveness, and problem solving. Now, students learn key vocabulary words such as Upstander and Bystander as they learn ways to stand up for themselves and others.
Students will listen to a book called, The Together Tree, which is about a new student named Rumi, who is bullied for being different. He finds solace under a willow tree. Classmates eventually learn to stand up for him, creating a space of kindness and inclusion.
Student learned who an UPSTANDER is and how important this role is when confronted with a bullying situation.
1.Be a Buddy 2.Interrupt
3.Speak Out 4.Tell an Adult
