When to Stay Home from School:

The best way to prevent the spread diseases or infections is to avoid exposure to others, especially if your child is showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Keep your child home if he shows the following symptoms:

· Fever (temperature higher than 100)

· Sore throat

· Shortness of breath from continued coughing

· Has chills or body aches

· New loss of taste or smell

· New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever

· Diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain

· Stomach pain that limits his/her ability to participate in his regular daily activities

· Congestion

· Behavior that is not normal for your child

· Ear Pain – lethargic, uncomfortable, discharge from ear.

· Itchy watery eyes - drainage or mucous, pain or eyelids are swollen.

At the end of the day, you know your child best. If he/she isn’t acting like themself, or it doesn’t seem like he/she could participate in school activities, trust your instincts, and keep your child at home. Often, a quick call to the pediatrician can help put your mind at ease, even if your child doesn’t need to be seen.

Suicide Prevention Lesson Sept. 19, 2025

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The physical and emotional safety of our students is a priority in Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. To proactively address early mental health intervention and suicide prevention, the counseling staff at Truitt Middle School will present guidance lessons to students on September 19, 2025. The goals of the lesson are as follows:

  • To explain that suicide is preventable with timely, appropriate intervention

  • To provide students with factual information regarding risk factors and early warning signs of suicide

  • To inform students how to obtain help for themselves and others, should the need arise

Students and staff members will be informed of the lesson before the presentation. Any students who have questions or concerns about the lesson can speak with their counselor.

Please speak with your child regarding the upcoming lesson. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's well-being, please contact the counseling office at 281-856-1132.

Sincerely,

Truitt Counseling Department

Procedures for Students Leaving Early Procedures for Students Leaving Early

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Dear Parents and Guardians,

If you plan on having your student leave early because of a doctor's appointment or non-emergency, please follow these procedures:

  • Send a handwritten note with your student information and the time needed to be excused (please make sure your student gives it to attendance before 1st period).
  • If sending a note through email, please make sure you attach a photo of your ID and you must send it an hour prior to leaving.
  • No emails or early releases after 2:30 pm due to the dismissal process starting.

Other helpful tips:

  • Make sure if your student is absent, please send a doctor's note when your student arrives back to school.
  • Only emergency contacts listed can be allowed to take students with previous approval from guardian.
  • If a student arrives at school after 7:55 am, make sure to sign them in or send a note. Otherwise, they will be counted absent.
  • Only 8 absences are allowed per semester.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Naavyah.Jenkins@cfisd.net for any

attendance needs.
