Technology/Social Media Tip

Parenting tweens and teens in the digital age can be challenging. Making a plan, having ongoing tough conversations, and advocating for your kids are just a few of the tips Melinda Gates offers in this Washington Post article:

Science Bowl - Update!

Thank you to all the students who have submitted their names in the lottery for the openings on our two Science Bowl Teams. We have decided to continue with our past practice of administering a qualifying exam rather than lottery style for selecting our Science Bowl Teams. The qualifying exam will be held after school Tuesday, October 17th from 4-5pm. This is open to all students. Bring a pen or pencil and meet in the cafeteria. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Jan Olsvik via email at janice_olsvik@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Science Olympiad - Update!

Thank you to all the 6th grade students who have submitted their names in the lottery for the openings on our three Science Olympiad Teams. We are now opening lottery slots for 7th and 8th graders. Go to the attendance office to put your name in the lottery. We have 4 slots for 8th grade, 2 slots for 7th grade and 9 slots for 6th grade. The lottery for all grade levels will close on Monday, October 16th. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Jan Olsvik via email at janice_olsvik@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be Wednesday, October 25th. Please see the Stoller Picture Retake Flyer for information regarding online pre-orders.

After School Activities Bus

New this School Year!

Middle and high school after school activities buses will feature “transit style” bus routes for students. Students will be assigned stops within ½ mile of their homes. All stops will allow students to utilize sidewalks and avoid the crossing of busy streets. The majority of stops will be located near major housing areas (apartments, community centers or neighborhood elementary schools). The advantage to having assigned stops is the ability for parents to access the My Stop App to track their child’s bus.

If you need to request bus service for your student please fill out the Activity Bus Request form. This form is also available in the attendance office.

Jaguar Journal Magazine Club

How is a magazine published? Students will find out at the Stoller Magazine Club, where students interested in writing, photography, and artwork will get the opportunity to have their work published. They will also have the opportunity to create and design a magazine that will be seen by Stoller students. Snacks will be provided. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 10th from 4-5pm in room B-9 (Mrs. Medlock).

Make An Impact Club

This club will focus on helping students in need and making a difference in our community. For example, we may go to visit places like the Oregon Food Bank. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 10th from 4-5pm in the Library.

Stoller Sounds Choir

This is a choir leadership club and an advanced performance group. Activities may include: aiding in planning choir activities and events, organizing and decorating the choir room and resources, learning more advanced or challenging choral music to perform, participation in solo and ensemble festivals/competitions, and more. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 10th at 4pm in the Choir Room (M17).

Stoller After School Clubs

As new clubs start up we will post detailed information about them here in the Weekly. The latest information on all clubs is available on the School Clubs Page of our website. You will also find links on our club page to the School Activity/Club Permission Form, Activity Bus Form, Club Proposal Form and a link to online payments.

What is "You Be The Chemist?"

This competition occurs in the Spring.

Student selection is based on a qualifying exam at Stoller in March. Study materials for this exam may be found on the Chemical Educational Foundation website.

Follow the weekly for updates.

Mathcounts

Last Reminder...

Any students that are interested in trying out for the 2017-18 Stoller Mathcounts team should plan on taking the preliminary exam on Thursday October 12th from 8:15-9:05am in Green Hall. From this exam the top 30 students will be chosen and in November those 30 will compete for a spot in the top 10. Interested students should sign up outside of Mr. Norse’s classroom (B-2) during the week of October 2nd. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Norse directly.

Art Literacy at Stoller

Last Reminder...

Volunteers like YOU make Art Lit at Stoller happen!

Join us for an opportunity to enrich your child’s classroom experience with art history lessons and hands-on art projects. Art backgrounds are not necessary, just an interest in spending a day helping our children tap into their creativity!

Let's get Art Lit up and running in your student’s hall/grade!

We especially need 6th grade parents! Contact Chandra Innes at stollerptoartlit@gmail.com

Lost and Found

Is your child missing clothing items? A lunch box or water bottle? A backpack? Please check out the lost and found, located in the hallway across from the Art room! Any items left behind are scheduled to be picked up by Beaverton Clothes Closet on the following dates - October 24th, November 28th, December 20th, January 30th, February 27th, March 23rd, May 1st, May 29th and June 20th.

Talented and Gifted (TAG)

Every year all students are considered for identification as Talented and Gifted in the Beaverton School District. If you think your child might exhibit qualities that place him/her in the 97th percentile for their age, you may wish to complete a Parent Information Form (located in our front office). This form is based on the Kingore Observation Inventory that is used by classroom teachers in the fall for a six-week period of time. Completing this form does not guarantee that your child will be tested; it gives the TAG committee

additional information in the nomination process. Please submit any nominations forms to the front office (here at Stoller) by October 16th, 2017. Parents will be notified regarding testing eligibility, and the required permission forms will be sent to parents prior to our November testing dates.
