LTE CommunityUpdateAug. 6, 2026

We look forward to seeing everyone next week! We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Bits of Information

  • Express Check-In is a Douglas County School District application that allows parents to update household information, sign off on district forms, update health conditions and select school fees. This application helps prevent families from manually entering in a full batch of information for numerous children in the household when checking in prior to the start of the school year. Please have this completed by August 12 (first day of school).

  • Labeling Student Clothing and Lunch Boxes - Please label all of your child’s items with their first initial and last name. These items include lunch boxes, items and outerwear for colder weather, etc. We make every effort to return items to the appropriate owner so that they do not end up in Lost and Found.

  • DCSD Nutrition Services- Both Breakfast and Lunch are free again this year. Students need to have money in their accounts if they choose to purchase a la carte items.
  • Scholastic Book Fair Coming Soon - The book fair will be open August 24 - 27 and more information will be available in upcoming updates.
  • LTE Spirit Wear will be available to purchase starting on Wednesday, August 12. The link and more information will be coming soon!

Parent Information Night Parent Information Night

  • 4:30 - 5:15 - Classroom Session 1
  • 5:15 - 5:45 - PTO and SAC will be set up in Town Center so that families may drop in to gather information and to view our Spirit Wear that will be available to order on My School Bucks.
  • 5:45 - 6:30 - Classroom Session 2

We look forward to seeing you that evening!

Student Use of Communication Devices in School - Board Policy Student Use of Communication Devices in School - Board Policy

Student Use of Communication Devices (CDs) in School - Board Policy IICJI: Devices under this definition include, but are not limited to, cell phones (e.g., Android, iPhone, flip phones), wearables (e.g., smart watches, earbuds/headphones, smart eyeglasses), cameras, audio and/or video recorders and players, and all other handheld or mobile electronic communication and data storage devices. Laptops or tablets used for school purposes are excluded from this definition. At DCSD elementary schools, students with CDs must keep them silenced (no vibration or sound), stored, and not used during the entirety of the school day. Any student use of CDs with cameras and/or video recording capabilities is prohibited in locker rooms, bathrooms, or any location where such use could violate another person's reasonable expectation of privacy.

What does this mean for our LTE students? All communication devices, as listed above, must be powered down and stored in students’ backpacks before entering the building in the morning until 3:10pm. If students need to call parents or guardians during the day they may ask to use the phone in the front office. Likewise, if parents need to contact their student, please call the front office and we will immediately pass along the information to them, 303-387-7450

Wednesday, August 12th - First Day of School Wednesday, August 12th - First Day of School

As students are welcomed into our building for a new school year, we designate the first hour (8-9 am) as a time to “settle in” to a new classroom with supplies for the year. Parents will have the option to either drop their child(ren) off or park and accompany them to their classroom(s). Please follow these procedures and refer to these resources.

  • ALL K-5th grade students and parents need to enter the building through our main entrance.

  • The majority of our families will be parking and escorting their child(ren) to classes for our “settle-in time”, but some may be driving through carpool. As always, we need to keep our main carpool lanes clear, but we will allow parking in the bus loop area for this one day.

  • Visit Learning Areas for a glimpse at our grade-level teams: Learning Areas

  • Please link to our Parent Handbook for important information about our Arrival and Departure Procedures.

  • Supply Lists

  • Kindergarten Balanced Beginnings - Kindergarten families, please use the links below to sign Kindergartners up for one of the Balanced Beginnings days. Make sure to sign up for only one day with your child’s assigned class. The first full day of Kindergarten for all students will be Friday, August 14.

⚡ Severe Weather-Related Procedures Including Lightening ⚡ Severe Weather-Related Procedures Including Lightening

The district provides severe weather notification to the front office, and we follow their guidelines for severe conditions indicated on the radar. If lightning is within an 8-mile radius, students will be contained in the building for recess or any other school activity. We use the WeatherBug APP—we encourage parents to use these tools to self-monitor conditions.

Red Flag Dismissal Procedures

If severe weather happens during dismissal, we will suspend normal dismissal procedures and implement our Red Flag Dismissal Procedures.

  • By 2:50 pm we will:

    • Place red flags at the entry point to both pickup loops designating that parents need to enter the building to sign out their child

    • Send out a mass email announcing a Red Flag (lightning) dismissal

  • Parents need to park and enter our building at either the main entrance or the Kindergarten entrance and once inside proceed to the appropriate classroom to sign out their child.

  • Students will be monitored until an authorized adult (at least 18 years old) signs them out.

  • Walkers and bike riders will be allowed to call home at 3:15 pm

  • Supervision ends at 3:30 pm so all students need to be picked up by that time

  • Students registered for Lion's Club for the day will go there as usual until released
