SPAPSD Families,

As the calendar year draws to a close, I want to share my sincere gratitude for the partnership and trust you place in our schools every day. It has been an impressive and productive start to the year, and we are thrilled with the learning and growth your children are experiencing.

This December, our focus is on ensuring a joyful and supportive end to the semester. Your student's success reflects our commitment to high education. We want to assure you that the community's investment, supported by the recent referendum, directly funds the quality programs and resources in your student’s school. We remain dedicated to financial transparency regarding these resources; for answers to frequently asked questions about the budget and tax bill, please visit our Budget Information page.

We also want to reinforce the importance of connection and rest over the upcoming break. Taking time together helps students recharge and prepares them to return ready to learn in the new year. Thank you for continuing to support consistent attendance until the last day before break.

We are proud to partner with you to ensure every student feels they belong and has the care and support to learn and thrive. We wish your family a restful and peaceful holiday season.

With appreciation,

Cory Hirsbrunner, Ed.D. Superintendent

The Stevens Point Area Public School District is delighted to announce that Lindsey Kedrowski, Head Secretary at Charles F. Fernandez Center (C.F.C.), has been honored with the December Mandana Bliss Award. This monthly recognition celebrates staff members whose outstanding commitment defines educational excellence in our district.

Lindsey was celebrated not just for her administrative skill, but for her essential role in shaping C.F.C.’s culture of welcome and support. Her personal commitment ensures every student and family feels connected from the moment they enter the school doors.

During the award presentation, C.F.C. Principal Dani Fowler-Koenig emphasized that Lindsey's dedication goes "over and above" to serve the entire school community.

“Lindsey is that trusted person,” Dani noted. “She will do whatever it takes to make sure that not only students’ needs are met, staff needs, family needs, over and above. That is Lindsey Kedrowski. Could not ask for someone to be more about the culture of belonging, and the student being at the center of everything that we do. She truly is an exceptional secretary.”

The deep connection Lindsey fosters with students was a key highlight. Dani shared powerful feedback from students, noting that the theme of personal support was constant, “I was just struck, over and over again, this theme of students saying she is the first smile I see in the morning…They all commented, over and over, about her personally supporting them, knowing them…One student wrote, ‘I just feel seen by her.’”

Students Amelia and Hailey spoke to her positive influence directly, stating, “Lindsey makes C.F.C. a better place because she welcomes students each morning by their names as they are walking in, making them feel welcome.” They added that her positive impact extends beyond greetings: “Lindsey impacts every student's lives in many ways, and from my experience, it is always positive impact. It really seems like she can read our mind sometimes.”

The Mandana Bliss Award is named in honor of Mandana Hale Bliss, Stevens Point's first school teacher and trailblazer. The award recognizes staff whose service reflects excellence, compassion, and a commitment to inspiring future generations.

The Stevens Point Area Public School District congratulates Lindsey Kedrowski for her invaluable contributions to C.F.C. and our entire district.

🔨 Lowe’s Community Project Brings New Enhancements to Boston School Forest 🔨 Lowe’s Community Project Brings New Enhancements to Boston School Forest

Thank You Lowe's!

The Stevens Point Area Public School District is proud to share the impact of a recent partnership with our local Lowe’s team, whose annual community project brought meaningful improvements to Boston School Forest.

Each year, Lowe’s stores across the country receive funds to support a nonprofit project in their area. Employees nominate organizations that make a difference in their community, and this year, several associates recommended Boston School Forest based on their own positive childhood experiences there. After the nomination was selected, Lowe’s staff reached out to explore how they could support outdoor learning for our students.

Working closely with district staff, Lowe’s associate Barry, an architect and master tradesman, created plans for two new additions. The first was a sturdy, weather-protected bus stop structure for visiting classrooms. The second was a set of custom-built photo risers designed to support hands-on learning and group instruction. Students and staff are already using the new risers for outdoor lessons, demonstrations, and class photos.

On installation day, eight Lowe’s associates volunteered their “give back time” to bring the plans to life. Team members donated their skills, materials, and energy to complete the project in just one day. Their work reflects a strong commitment to giving back and building relationships within the local community.

“We want Lowe’s to be a part of the community,” one associate shared. “This project gave us an opportunity to support students and a place that means a lot to many of us.”

The district extends its sincere gratitude to the entire Lowe’s team for their generosity and partnership. Their contributions strengthen outdoor learning opportunities at Boston School Forest and help ensure students continue to learn, explore, and grow in a rich and engaging environment.

Thank you, Lowe’s, for your continued support of our students and schools.

🤝 Building the Teachers of Tomorrow: Inside The SPAPSD and UWSP Collaborative P.E. Teacher Practicum

Did you know that over 30 future physical education educators from UW-Stevens Point are getting invaluable, hands-on training right here in our district every semester? We highlight the powerful partnership between SPAPSD and the UWSP School of Education that is equipping new teachers with the real-world skills to make P.E. engaging, inclusive, and fun for all students.

The hands-on practicum experience is crucial for building their professional skills. As UWSP practicum student Danika Lindgren explains:

“We get to come and actually have the experience teaching before we get into our own classroom. It helps us build our tool boxes with different teaching strategies and different methods that work in the classroom.”
