An Eighth Grade Exchange Edition #16
Dear 8th Grade Families,
Welcome to our March newsletter! I absolutely love March - not just because it's my birthday month (mark your calendars for March 4th!) but also because it's Women's History Month. This special time gives us the opportunity to honor and learn about the remarkable contributions women have made throughout history.
We'll continue celebrating Black history through our "classroom houses" activities, while expanding our focus to include the incredible achievements of women throughout history. This month, we'll be recognizing not only the important women in our personal livesβour mothers, grandmothers, and role modelsβbut also the trailblazers who have paved the way for future generations.
Did you know? Women's History Month began as Women's History Week in 1982, before expanding to a month-long celebration in 1987. The month of March was chosen to coincide with International Women's Day on March 8th. Another fascinating fact: when women gained the right to vote in 1920, Jeannette Rankin had already been serving in Congress for nearly three years, elected in 1916βfour years before women could even vote for her!
I'm excited to share all the wonderful learning experiences we have planned this month. Stay tuned for more details about our upcoming activities and projects!
Warmly,
Ms. Ernvall
π Student Spotlight: 8th Grade Hockey Heroes! π
Talk about student leadership! Our incredible 8th grade scholars took initiative to the next level when they planned, prepared, and scouted a team for Thursday's epic Staff vs. Student floor hockey showdown!
The student athletes brought their A-game to the floor, demonstrating impressive skills, strategy, and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, their classmates transformed into the ultimate fan section - creating colorful posters, starting energetic chants, and celebrating every play with thunderous enthusiasm!
Though our students narrowly fell to the staff in a nail-biting 6-7 battle (yes, us "old folks" still have some moves!), the real victory was the incredible school spirit and community they created. The positive energy in that gym was absolutely electric!
A huge thank you to our amazing 8th graders for organizing this unforgettable event and to everyone who showed up and showed out! Your passion, teamwork, and school pride make our community shine. We can't wait to see what you'll organize next!
