Reuse/Recycle-additional Ticket Booth for the HS Football Field

Because of a donation by the Rotary Club and Marysville Community Hospital, the old can be made new again. Valley Heights now has a second Ticket Booth(aka, old Covid Drive-through booth) and by adding our banner to the front of this booth, we will repurpose and happily reuse. The booth will become an excellent source of shelter for our ticket takers during home football games.

A Letter from Mr. Savage

We are moving the Homecoming Parade, scheduled for September 29th, to Waterville due to the bridge construction taking place on Highway 9. Our main concern is the amount of traffic that would build up when we dismiss all of our students and staff for the start of the parade. Student safety is one of our main priorities and we feel this is in the best interest for everyone. We have contacted the mayors for both Waterville and Blue Rapids and they agreed to our request. We would like to invite all of our Mustang fans to join us as we put the finishing touches on Homecoming Week at Valley Heights!

Speaking of fall activities, we are in full swing here at Valley Heights. The cross country team competed in their first meet on August 31st. In the junior high division Tyler Holmes finished in 5th place. In the high school girl’s division Lindsay Gray finished in 20th place, Kynadee Bishop placed 39th and Kloee Martin was 40th. Jaqueline Sandoval was not able to finish due to an injury. On the boy’s side of things Kebeb Zimmerman placed 7th overall. Hudson Nemechek was right behind in 12th place and Charlie Warders finished in 30th. Our athletes set their first competitive times of the year and will now look to better those times at every meet!

Our volleyball team went 3 and 0 at a TVL Quadrangular hosted by Onaga. The Lady Mustangs picked up those wins against Centralia, Linn and Onaga to bring their overall record to 7-2! The ladies will be in action this Saturday when they compete in the always tough Riley County Invitational.

Our JH athletes will be hosting the first home event of the season on September 7th when we host Blue Valley Randolph and Luckey. The volleyball team will play a triangular with these two BVL schools and our football team will compete against the combined Luckey and Blue Valley squad. Game time for the Mustangs are volleyball at 5:00 pm and football at 6:30 pm.

Valley Heights Jr./Sr. High School is forming a building level Site Council. In the past, Site Council was at the district level but we are moving towards a Site Council for the Junior-Senior High and a separate one for the elementary buildings. Right now, we are looking for members to be a part of this group. We will meet quarterly during the school year. Site Council’s purpose is to advise the school on matters such as student learning, education issues, programs, etc. They then become advocates and a voice about this information to our communities. Membership must include representatives from the following groups: Parents, Student Body, Certified and Classified Staff, Business & Community Members and the Principal. If you are interested in serving on this very important group then please contact my office by phone or email – msavage@valleyheights.org.

We would like to thank Titan Mfg. for donating two microwaves to our cafeteria area. Our lunch program is serving all students in grades 9 through 12 at one sitting this year and students were spending a lot of time waiting in line to warmup their meals. This gift allows our students to have plenty of time to eat their lunch prior the start of our afternoon classes! Once again – Thank You Titan!

Have a great week!

A bit of Birthday Fun for our Mr Savage

Mrs. Coon gave a great performance on Friday, 9/8, for Mr. Savage's birthday. Mrs Coon surprised the 4th hour ACT Prep class with her rendition of the "Happy Birthday" song to our new principal.

Caley Brenner-Social/Emotional Counselor

My name is Caley Brenner, soon to be Caley Gallimore. I was raised and currently live in Randolph, Ks with my fiancé and two dogs/cats and we are to be married this month on the 23rd. I recently graduated in May with my masters and was fortunate enough to land the school counseling job here at VH. I enjoy spending time with my family on the weekend and often find myself at my niece and nephews sporting events. I love the fall so I am excited the season is approaching and will be active with all Fall activities and fun! Plans for the future including wanting to start a family and build a house, I have contemplated furthering my education but for now I will enjoy more free time, maybe pick up a hobby or two. I am excited to get more active as school counselor and my goals are to continue to meet with students and provide support. I am new to the KAY organization, so I am looking forward to being more involved and adding some new events to our group that support our schools and communities.

Senior Perks

One of many new traditions to come: This is year No.#2 for our special parking spots for our Senior students. Students are allowed to pick a parking stall and, with principal approval, paint it with their own design.
