From the School Board
On Friday, we shared with you the news of Jonathan Weinhagen’s resignation from the School Board. Over the weekend, we’ve appreciated hearing from many in our community who care deeply about our district, and we’d like to provide you with an update.
We understand the legitimate concern citizens have these days surrounding fraud with taxpayers’ dollars. We hope the following facts will address these concerns.
We have processes and procedures in place to ensure that no single Board member has access to the District’s funds or budgets. District budgets are approved only by a majority vote of the Board.
Like all public school districts, Mounds View undergoes an independent, annual financial audit that is made public to the community. These audits have never revealed any evidence of impropriety. However, we have asked our auditing firm to review our finances for the duration of Mr. Weinhagen’s Board service.
As Board members, we have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interests of the students, the community and the School District. The six of us take this obligation very seriously. This former Board member’s alleged actions -- unrelated to serving our district -- should not cast doubts on the integrity of our Board.
Please know that we will continue to update the community regarding the process for filling this vacancy.
