Nominate a Teacher Nominate a Teacher

Nominate a teacher as a Classroom Hero! We know Arroyo has the best teachers. Why not give them the recognition they deserve?

If the teacher you nominate wins, they’ll receive $10,000, our school will receive $5000 and a year’s supply of Kleenex, and everybody wins!

The more nominations you submit, the better our chances of being selected! Let’s show our amazing Arroyo teachers just how much we appreciate them! ❤️

Do you have a middle schooler? Share this link with them and ask them to nominate their favorite teacher(s)! Need the teacher's email address? Look in our Parent Handbook.

I realize I may have made an error in the printed copy of the Parent Handbook regarding the lunch hours, and I sincerely apologize for the oversight.

I have updated the digital version of the handbook and corrected the hyperlink. As I become more familiar with our school and some of the schedules that were established and approved last year, I hope to make fewer mistakes moving forward.

In the meantime, please feel free to write the correct lunch hours directly into the handbook that was sent home last week. Thank you for your understanding and patience!

BIRTHDAY

We will announce birthdays Monday mornings for the entire week. Students will then be invited to try their hand at the claw machine in the Principal’s office for a gift. If you would like your child to be excluded, please inform the office at least 1 week prior to the birthday.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Arroyo Seco Museum Magnet School adheres to the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Blueprint for Wellness that recognizes the importance of wellness, good nutrition, and an active lifestyle in the overall health of our students. Due to many new and severe allergies, we will not be accepting food treats of any kind for any birthday celebrations. Please do not send cupcakes, donuts, pizzas, candies, and goodie bags with food. Goodie bags with non-edible items are okay so long as coordinated with teachers in advance to be passed out the last 5-minutes of the school day. Individual birthday parties are not permitted.

Feel free to send your child to school with a special birthday shirt, crown, or sash so that they can feel extra special, but any food treats sent to school to be distributed and/or consumed will be sent back home.

Dress Code Dress Code

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

I know it’s hot, but let’s make sure our students are dressed appropriately for school and ready for learning.

Last week, I had several conversations with students about wearing undershirts as outer shirts, very short shorts, and excessively baggy pants. I would like to thank you in advance for your support in maintaining a safe and appropriate learning environment.

Below are the sections of our dress code that I would like to emphasize based on last week’s observations:

  • Tops: If a student is not following the dress code with their top, we will call you to bring a change of clothes. If you are not available, we will provide a loaner shirt for the student to wear over their current shirt.
  • Pants and Shorts: If a student is wearing pants that are too tight, excessively baggy, or torn, and/or shorts that are not safe for PE or recess, the student will need to remain seated during those activities.

TOPS (Blouses/Shirts)

  1. No shirt wear with logos or trademarks of alcoholic beverages, suggestive messages, or illustrations (sexual, racial, drug, tobacco, or vulgar language).
  2. No halter-tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, bathing suit tops, or any tops which expose undergarments/skin, display cleavage or reveal the bare midriff.
  3. See-through or mesh type tops are not to be worn without an appropriate undergarment.
  4. Sleeveless blouses/tank tops are allowed.

LONG PANTS

  1. Pants and shorts must fit at the waist and be wearable without a belt.
  2. No pant legs that drag on the ground, or pants with non-existent cuffs (cut-off or frayed).
  3. Pants with holes/rips above knees may not be worn.

SHORTS / SKIRTS

  1. Shorts/skirts/skorts should be no more than four (4) fingers from the knee.
  2. Leggings/tights should be worn under short dresses.

So that every student can proudly represent Arroyo Seco and get a little help with our dress code, we will be providing every student with a free school spirit shirt!

Please complete the Google Form by Friday, August 21, so we can order the shirts.

If you do not submit a size for your child, we will do our best to estimate the appropriate size. However, please help us get it right by submitting a size!

Please note: We will be ordering shirts based on the sizes submitted, so size exchanges will not be available. Please use the size chart provided when selecting a size. When in doubt, we recommend choosing the larger size.

Thank you for helping us make sure every Cougar can proudly represent Arroyo Seco! 🐾

After School Intervention After School Intervention

High-Dose Tutoring (HDT)

High-Dose Tutoring takes place on campus after the regular school day.

  • In the teacher-led model, eligible students work in small groups of 3–5 with a credentialed teacher, using an intervention curriculum to strengthen skills in English language arts (ELA) or mathematics.

  • In the vendor-provided model, students participate in small-group tutoring with a vetted provider using a similar instructional approach. All vendor-provided sessions are supervised by school personnel to ensure quality and alignment with school goals.

In both models, schools provide a structured tutoring schedule totaling 45 hours of instruction per year. Sessions are typically offered three days per week over a 20-week period, ensuring students receive consistent, sustained support.

Home-Based Virtual Tutoring (HBVT) is available in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 2–8. Eligible students participate in one-on-one tutoring sessions from home, with parent or guardian supervision, two days per week.

Each session provides individualized support, allowing tutors to focus on your child’s specific learning needs and progress over time. To apply for HBVT, please visit enroll.lausd.net and select the ENRICHMENT tile.

For us at ASMSM, we are hoping to offer the teacher-led model. First we are surveying you for your interest in order to plan accordingly.

Please complete the form to request tutoring for the 2026-2027 school year. Students must meet the requirements per district policy to be eligible. Please see the chart below to see if you are eligible. Students will be required to maintain their attendance. Should a student miss more than 5 sessions, their spot will be offered to another student.

Tutoring will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 10 weeks in the Fall Semester and 10 weeks in the Spring Semester.

Elementary tutoring will be 2:30-3:15 p.m

Middle School tutoring will be 3:20-4:05 p.m.

Please respond by August 19, 2026 to be considered.
