Cougar Newsletter - December 2, 2025
Message from Your Principal
Cougar Community,
We have reached December, and we hope our students, teachers and community had a restful Thanksgiving Break. With 3 weeks until our next break, we are encouraging our students to work hard in all of their classes, so our students can realize that learning takes hard work and a strong work ethic. We appreciate all of our parents and guardians for instilling a desire to learn in all of our students, so please keep holding the expectation high.
Once again, our Attendance percentage is up 1% from this time last year, and we appreciate your support in getting your students here everyday. A great education is dependent on showing up everyday ready to learn.
In closing, our teachers, staff and administrators are THANKFUL for the AMAZING students you have sent to us. Your help and support is critical in the success of all of our students. Also, please consider joining the AJMS PTA to continue to help out our community.
Let's FINISH the year off STRONG!!
- If your student is needing immunizations, please contact our school nurse (dion.castaneda@nisd.net).
- For the 2025-2026 academic year, Parent/ Guardian written health excuses may only be accepted until the fifth absence of the year. Upon the student’s sixth health related absence, a doctor’s note must be provided.
- Remember, we are an AWAY for the DAY campus, so phones, earbuds, and smart watches must be Away for the School Day. Phones, earbuds, laptops and smart watches can only be used before and after school.
- Take a moment to review the dress code policy below.
We want to thank you for sending your student everyday. Please keep up the great work. Attendance truly matters!
Thank you,
Your Principal,

Chromebooks Carts in the Classroom
Starting this school year, Northside ISD will be instituting a change in the distribution of our student Chromebook devices. After careful consideration, we will be transitioning from the current model of assigning Chromebooks to each individual student, to a model where the devices stay in the possession of the classroom, under the supervision of the teacher. This decision is driven by our commitment to enhancing student focus and learning in the classroom, as well as ensuring the long-term sustainability of our technology devices and programs.
Our aim is to provide the most effective learning environment for all students. While technology is an invaluable tool, we've observed that a model with devices assigned to students can sometimes lead to increased distractions for students or device management issues like lost chargers, uncharged or broken devices, hindering their ability to fully engage with classroom lessons.
This shift to a class set model is a strategic move that will allow us to implement significant cost savings related to device life-cycle replacement responsibilities. These savings are imperative to ensure our district has continued funding and support of our overall technology program well into the future.
Our priority is to ensure all students have access to the necessary tools for a high-quality education. We will provide information at the start of the school year to students on how to check out a device for after-school use for homework or classroom assignments.
We believe this approach will enhance the learning environment, fostering focus and productivity, while also responsibly managing district resources. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.
