The News
It is Dream Girl Week at PCHS. This week close to 30 young ladies will step out of their comfort zone onto a stage to be judged based on many factors. I applaud all of these girls and their willingness to be a part of this process. Good luck to all of you participating!
Permit me to be a little selfish for a moment. This pageant always reminds me of my Dad. Don't laugh! Believe it or not, he started the Dream Girl pageant at PCHS way back in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I don't know the precise year, but it was a long time ago and galaxy far, far, away. I am proud this tradition still lives on.
Last week was a reminder of my Mom as girls tried out for cheerleader. My Mom coached cheerleaders for 40 or so years at PCHS and always took great pride in 'her' girls. Being a cheer coach is tough, especially at tryout time. There are always so many great girls wanting to represent their school and it's hard when some don't make it. I saw my Mom cry every year at tryout time.
Congratulations to all the girls who did make the cheer team! There are 14 varsity and nine junior high. You earned a great responsibility! You represent PCHS and you are a reflection on our school whether you are in uniform or not.
Our JAG program is hosting a LifeSouth Blood Drive on Wednesday. Please consider donating blood if you are able. There is goal is 30.
Congratulations to our softball teams on their season-opening win at home over Phillips on Thursday. Our varsity baseball team also got their first win of the season on Saturday beating the Meek Tigers. There a lot of games on the schedule this week (see below). Note: the Monday JH baseball game at Haleyville has been cancelled.
As we head into Spring sports season, I just want to remind our parents and fans of our responsibility to abide by good sportsmanship. Spring sports games are the quietest of them all. Everything can be heard far and wide. What we say and do at games are a reflection on our school and our kids.
It's going to get cold this week but Spring is right around the corner!
Have A Great Week!
