Notes from Norburg

Dear Mesquite Elementary Families,

What a week it has been as we wrap up the year! The end of the year is always bittersweet, especially as we send off our sixth graders who have led so well and families that are moving. I am proud of how far our campus has continue to grow this year and this is only possible with the hard work our staff does each day and the community support. This week has included a Student Council Lion's Den Assembly where students were celebrated, Kona Ice for the campus from PTSO, a Senior Clap Out, Graduations for our Early Childhood Programs, a kickball game between sixth graders and staff, and more! We truly couldn't do all we do each day without the amazing support of our PTSO and community. Thank you for trusting us and sharing your kids with us each day this year!

We will miss our sixth graders next year as they transition to junior high while also looking forward to welcoming our new kindergartners. We are excited to have so many of our Preschool Advantage and Building Blocks students continuing with us in Preschool, Building, Blocks, and/or Kindergarten. Information about Kindergarten Round Up on Monday, July 14th can be using this link.

The front office will be open Monday through Thursday starting on Tuesday, May 27th until Tuesday, June 10th. It will reopen on Monday, July 7th. We look forward to seeing all Building Blocks, Preschool, and Kinder through 6th Grade students at Meet the Teacher Night on Friday, July 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The first day of school will be on Tuesday, July 22nd! We hope you have a fun and safe summer!

Sincerely,

Wendy Norburg

Thank you FE Racing Bike 4 Kids Bike Club

We were able to celebrate and honor Spencer Abrams as the GOAT of the Year by presenting him with an amazing bike donated by FE Racing Bike 4 Kids Bike Club! Spencer truly goes above and beyond in showing respect to others and always being responsible. Spencer is the first to celebrate others as well as the first to jump in and help. Thank you Spencer for leading so well at Mesquite! A special thank you to Mr. Crus, Desert Ridge High School's new principal, for presenting this bike with Mrs. Pardy!

Senior Clap Out

This week Mesquite had their first Senior Clap Out and what a success it was! Thank you to Mrs. Pardy and Mrs. Sturdevant for organizing this amazing event! Seniors graduating at so many area schools, including Campo Verde High School, Gilbert High School, Highland High School, and Canyon Valley High School walked the hallways of Mesquite Elementary where they themselves were once elementary students! What a special time this was for Mesquite and hopefully the start of an annual tradition! Seniors were visiting and catching up on campus until after 4:30 p.m. and we loved hearing them reconnect and laugh together! Dr. McCord even attended and recorded an end of year message while on campus. Thank you PTSO for donating to this event by helping to purchase the cake and decorations!

Mesquite St & 29th Pl (ST1620/ST2117) Improvement Projects PROJECT UPDATE

Provided below is current upcoming construction information based on the current schedule. Please remember schedules can be impacted by various factors, to include weather, materials scheduling and availability of resources, coordination with other projects or utilities, and neighborhood or school activities. A project description and exhibits from the public meeting are available on the project webpage.

  • Crews for Cox Communications continue their work in 29th Place to relocate their facilities. Following their work, waterline installation can begin, and more information will be provided once that work is scheduled.

  • Scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 27, to take advantage of the school's summer break, crews will work to install water pipeline along the north side of Mesquite Street directly adjacent to Mesquite Elementary School.

  • Following waterline work near Mesquite Elementary School, crews will conduct removals and begin grading in this area on the north side of Mesquite Street to prepare for concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk and valley gutter. Primary work on the north side of Mesquite Street, near the school, is expected to be complete prior to the school session resuming in July.

  • Those impacted by planned water service disruptions will be notified in advance. Residential services should not be disrupted; however, please contact us if you experience issues.

Mesquite Street and 29th Place will remain open for travel with a flagger activity in place, as needed, to shift traffic away from the work zone. Pedestrian traffic may be shifted to the opposite side of the street, away from the work area, in the interest of safety. Access to residences and the school will be maintained.

Please maintain safe speeds and obey traffic and construction signage, as it is placed for your safety and the safety of travelers and construction crews. In addition, please do not disturb workers as they are given specific tasks, working within allowable rights-of-way or easements, which need to be completed to maintain the project schedule.

Thank you for your patience during this work.
