BELONG ~ BELIEVE ~ ACHIEVE

Hello, Wildcat Families and Students!

What a fun week we had at Sullivan! School spirit was in full effect during our first Spirit Week. Students showed up in their themed outfits, and cheered on their friends. It was awesome to see so many Wildcats taking part and making memories together!

We ended the week with our first school dance, and it was wonderful to see students enjoying the music, spending time with friends, and celebrating as a school community. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a fun event.

A special thank-you to all the families who joined us for our first Lunch on the Lawn. Sharing lunch with you was another highlight of the week. Your presence and support mean so much to our students and staff.

Weeks like this remind me what makes Sullivan special: students, families, and staff coming together with Wildcat pride.

It's A Great Week to Be a Wildcat!

We look forward to seeing you and sharing more about the wonderful year ahead at Sullivan!

Supporting Student Well-Being During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month Supporting Student Well-Being During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Dear Sullivan Middle School Families,

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. At Sullivan Middle School, the safety, health, and well-being of our students remain our highest priorities. I will be pushing into classes this week to discuss signs to look for in others and where to get support.

Middle school is a time of big changes for young adolescents. Friendships shift, bodies grow, and academic pressures increase. These normal changes can sometimes feel overwhelming. Because mental health matters just as much as physical health, we want to partner with you to support our students.

What We Are Doing at School

Throughout this month and the entire school year, our counselors and staff are working to:

  • Teach students how to identify stress and big emotions.

  • Encourage kids to speak up if they or a friend feel unsafe or very sad.

  • Remind every student that trusted adults are always here to listen.

Signs to Watch For At Home

As parents and caregivers, you are often the first to notice when something changes. Watch for signs that your middle schooler might be struggling:

  • Sudden and lasting changes in mood, such as ongoing sadness, anger, or irritability.

  • Pulling away from friends, family, or favorite activities.

  • Changes in sleep or eating habits.

  • Talking about feeling hopeless, helpless, or like a burden to others.

  • Expressions of wanting to "disappear" or statements like "it would be better if I wasn't here".

How You Can Help

  • Listen openly: Ask your child about their day and listen without judgment. Let them know it is okay to feel sad or stressed.

  • Talk about it: Research shows that talking openly about mental health and asking directly about suicide does not put ideas in a child's head. It shows them you care.

  • Stay connected: Know who your child’s friends are and keep an eye on their phone and social media use.

Immediate Support and Resources

If you are worried that your child is in crisis or thinking about self-harm, help is available right now:

  • Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (free, confidential, and available 24/7).

  • Text HOME to 741741 to connect with the Crisis Text Line.

  • Contact our school counseling office directly at 760-631-5209 x1385 or email keri.gresbrink@bonsallusd.com for local referrals and support.

Working together, we can create a safe, supportive community where every middle schooler knows they matter.

Lunch on the Lawn! Lunch on the Lawn!

Thank you to all our wonderful families who joined us for Lunch on the Lawn! It was a special opportunity to welcome you to Sullivan, share time with our students, and enjoy being together as a school community. We loved seeing so many families on campus!

Thank you for making the day so memorable!

Spirit Week and Y2K Dance! Spirit Week and Y2K Dance!

Our first school dance was amazing! Students embraced the Y2K theme with fun outfits and spent the evening dancing, playing games, and taking pictures in the photo booth. It was wonderful to see our Wildcats having such a great time with their friends. Thank you to everyone who helped make our first dance a success!

Important Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminders Important Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminders

To help keep our Wildcats safe and ensure a smooth arrival and dismissal each day, please review the following important reminders.

Morning Drop-Off:
Parents and guardians should drop students off in their designated 6th, 7th, or 8th grade drop-off areas. Please do not drop students off in the bus drop-off area at the top of the parking lot. This area must remain clear for our buses to safely enter, unload students, and exit campus.

Afternoon Pick-Up:
To ensure the safety and supervision of all students during dismissal, starting at 3:15 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, all students who are still waiting to be picked up will be moved to the 6th-grade parking lot. On Thursday, our early release day, students will be moved to this area beginning at 1:40 PM.

If your 7th- or 8th-grade student has not been picked up by these times, they will be directed to the designated supervised area in the 6th-grade parking lot, where families can pick them up.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and partnership in helping us keep our Wildcats safe during our busy arrival and dismissal times!

8th Grade Wildcats will Attend the College and Career Fair! 8th Grade Wildcats will Attend the College and Career Fair!

We are excited for our 8th-grade students to attend the College & Career Fair at Bonsall High School! This is a great opportunity for our students to begin thinking about their future and explore the many possibilities available to them after high school.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about colleges, universities, career pathways, and other postsecondary options while beginning conversations about their own interests and future goals.

As our 8th graders prepare for the transition to high school, experiences like this help them see the connection between the choices they make today and the opportunities available to them in the future.

We are excited for our Wildcats to visit the high school and start exploring what comes next!

ATTENTION PARENTS!

Only emergency vehicles, buses, those with handicap placards, and those with other special placards have access to the upper lot, emergency lane closest to the front of our schools. You will need to show your placard to Campus Security.

We ask that If you have a parking pass because your student received the ROAR Award for that month you may continue to have access to the upper lot at the end of the school day. Please do not park in the bus lanes or block the handicap spaces.

This decision to enforce our existing parking lot plan aligns with the recommendations of our community safety partners and will increase our ability to maintain a safe and secure site:

  • When dropping students off, please use the lower levels of the parking lot.
  • When visiting either the middle or the high school office, please park in the lower levels, bring your ID to the front, and check in with the appropriate staff.

Gates accessing the upper lane will continue to be closed to secure the campus. We appreciate your partnership and support in our efforts to provide the highest levels of safety for our students
