Mustang Update
What an exciting week we are having out here at Valley Heights! It started on Saturday when our Lady Mustangs captured the 2A Substate Championship at Bennington. The girls squared off against two tough opponents in Elbing-Berean Academy and Inman. The Mustangs took down the Warriors in two games and the Teutons in three games to bring home the hardware. We will now travel to Dodge City where we will take on Oakley, Jeff. County North and Conway Springs in pool play! Those results will determine if we move on to the semifinals and finals on Saturday! Our cross-country team qualified five runners for the 2A State meet hosted at the Wamego Country Club. On the girlβs side we have Emma Warders and Lindsay Gray running with the start time scheduled for 12:55 pm. On the boyβs side we have Kebeb Zimmerman, Langston Gray and Tyler Holmes running and their start time is at 11:10 am. We also need to add that our football team will be travelling to Hays, KS on Thursday night to take on Thomas-More Prep with a game time of 7:00 pm. This game will be played at Ft. Hays State Universityβs field. Best of luck to our athletes and coaches this week!!
To kick off this weekend full of activities Student Council planned a pep rally for our staff and students, community members and our elementary staff and students. The gym was buzzing with our pep band performing, a hype video, cheerleaders and dance teams performing and of course β the entire crowd getting into the action!
The Valley Heights Site Council held their first meeting on October 22nd at Waterville Elementary. The topics covered were our 2025 State Assessment scores, two facets of our Strategic Plan and a historical breakdown of enrollment figures for Valley Heights schools. Site Council is a group, made up of parents, business owners, patrons, staff members and students and we are always looking for members! We meet quarterly and the meeting is limited to one hour so you would have plenty of evening left when the meeting concludes. The purpose of Site Council is simple! Members are the voice for our communities!
Mark your calendars for one of fallβs biggest events β our All-School Play! The curtains will go up on November 13, 14 and 15 on this yearβs production β Murder on the 518. The shows on Friday and Saturday night will start at 7:00 pm and the Sunday matinee will start at 2:00 pm. As usual, the show will be performed in the Waterville Opera House. Murder on the 518 is a family friendly murder mystery which should prove to be very interesting! The cast and crew and our director, Ms. Alli Jones and assistant director, Ms. Emma Tryon have been putting in the hours to make this one of our best productions yet!
We will be hosting two community events out here on November 4th!! The Valley Heights Commons will serve as the voting poll for our area residents that day! In conjunction with that event our FACS organization will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive in the gym! The blood drive will run from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm and the voting polls will be open according to their posted hours!
Go Mustangs!!

Mrs. Stevenson's Classroom~~~
The Junior and Senior English classes have just finished up their respective units.
After reading and annotating the Declaration of Independence and writing a research paper on one of the delegates present at the Constitutional Convention, the Seniors created video clips about the issues and debates related to the creation of the Constitution at the convention. Click on the links to watch a couple of the videos that were created! On Monday, November 3rd, each student will "become" a delegate as they reenact the debate and signing of the Constitution.
The Juniors concluded their research unit with an essay over an important figure from the Progressive Era, then participated in a lively panel debate over the issues they learned about in their research. (I will try to get pictures from journalism students to post.)
Both classes will begin studying Shakespeare's Macbeth during 2nd quarter.

KEEP CHASING.
Valley Heights Journalism
October 27, 2025
KEEP CHASING. Bryce Logan Wittgartner was born on October 27, 2007. He is the son of Chris and Tracy Taylor of Blue Rapids, and Steven and Christina Wittgartner of Emporia. His siblings are Ember, Lena, Emily, and Jeffrey. Wittgartner is involved in All School Play, Forensics, and Golf one year; Art, FFA, Football, and Baseball three years; FCA and Basketball four years. 4-H is a non-school activity Bryce is involved in and he has been an officer for two years. His favorite memory from high school is all the games playing basketball on our home court. Mrs. Oatney, Wittgartnerβs senior mentor, has been helping him with this school year and what he intends to do after he graduates. After graduation, Wittgartner has future goals to storm chase in Tornado Alley. Reed Timmer, an American Meteorologist, has had the biggest impact on Wittgartnerβs life because he inspired him to pursue his dreams in storm chasing. Wittgartnerβs favorite quote is βKeep Chasing,β because you always need to keep chasing. His ideal Saturday night would be hanging out with his family, bonus points, if they have taco salad for dinner. Something most people don't know about Bryce is that he has two families. He wants to be remembered as hardworking. Advice Bryce would give to underclassmen is do the best you can. Article By Teagan Spoonts
