Academy Announcements
Dear Academy Families and Friends,
Winter's cold is blowing hard and this past week it was very cold! I think most of us are hoping for a bit of a warm-up ahead but please make sure to dress your child for the weather. The building can be chilly so I suggest dressing/having an extra layer that can be kept in her/his locker/backpack. I would also recommend making sure they are wearing winter jackets, hats, scarves and mittens as most days they should expect to go outdoors for recess and getting some fresh air.
Here are a few more announcements and upcoming events as we need the midpoint of the school year:
- Winter benchmark assessments are done for DIBELs and I-ready assessments. We will be digging into the data and looking at our progress, strengths and target areas for the second half of the school year.
- With data coming out, I want to remind parents that Lexia Core 5 and ST Math are two great tools kids can do at home to improve their literacy and math skills. I highly recommend getting those minutes in each week in addition to nightly reading which students can access with there clever badges.
- Snow and sidewalks: over the past few days, the snow has turned to ice and can prove very difficult to traverse. Please give yourself extra time getting to and from the school each day. Our school has a lot of walkers, so please drive carefully anytime making your way to campus.
- With winter conditions and the deep cold we've seen, I strong encourage families to use the top lot when possible. It's safe, shortens the walk and also alleviates congestion on our side streets like Candia, Sutton, Gilbert and Broad St. Place which many of our walkers use.
- Also please remember cars should never unload on the Avenue itself.
- At WPS, the safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities. We understand there are many concerns surrounding federal immigration policies and their impact on our schools and we would like to reassure you that our schools remain safe and inclusive for all of our students. We strictly adhere to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy); we will not release any student information nor allow access to students without consent from parents or guardians. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I am happy to announce Jen Andreas and Kelli Carini have been appointed to the role of co-lead teacher. Please see the update letter that went out last week!
Looking forward to finishing January on a strong note and getting ready for February and the second half of the school year.
