Success Around CIS of Atlanta
February 16, 2017
Great Things!
We truly have a Rock Star Team with Rock Star Students! So many great things are happening around CISA that we want to take a moment to just highlight some successes this week!
Forest Park HS College Fair
Quinton hosted a Communities in Schools sponsored College Fair for all seniors at FPHS. Students applied to college; some were accepted on the spot; and some applied for scholarships. Ask him about the details.
APS College and Career Week Supported by CISA Site Coordinators & Student Support Coaches
Shonobe's Albany State Alumni Chapter College Tour
After being informed about the Albany State Alumni Chapter College Tour, I knew that it was the perfect opportunity to expose my Frederick Douglass Caseload Seniors to the college life of a true HBCU. We headed out this morning around at 5:15 am and we're now headed back to Atlanta. We toured the campus and were able to experience the Greek Life. We were able to eat at the cafe and I also provided the ten individuals with Albany State Tshirts from the bookstore. Three of the students got accepted on the spot. Ms Jazzmond Cameron and Ms Sidney Davis were given the opportunity by Dr Morris (Behavioral Specialist) to connect with Dr Gipson (Social Work Professor) and share their powerful stories on how they will be the first to graduate, attend college and the many struggles they have encountered as a child. She was excited to meet the young ladies and was touched by their stories. I've made great connects while here and the main thing everyone questioned was "who do you work for". I was honored to respond on behalf of Communities In Schools of Atlanta. I would love to thank everyone for this amazing opportunity and allowing me to spread the love and make a huge impact!!!!
STARS Mentoring Program: BEST, CSKYWLA, Langston HS
Denise, Celeste, Shakirah, and Keneshia held the first mentor training for the STARS program. STARS is a unique group peer mentoring model that matches 9th grader mentees with an upperclassmen for the duration of the school year. Saturday's training involved hands-on trust and critical thinking activities for building teams! Ask them to show you how to conduct one of the cool activities they learned.
King MS Young Ladies Empowerment Program
Jamisha hosted a panel of career women to speak to groups of 6th, 7th, 8th graders. The panelist shared their college and career stories, life's lessons, and what it means to have respect for self and others.
Communities in Schools of Atlanta
We surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Keep Shinning Team! Please email and/or tweet pictures of your programs!
