Serve on the CCA Board: Nominations Now Open Serve on the CCA Board: Nominations Now Open

Dear CCA Community,

The CCA Board of Directors Vacancy Committee is now accepting nominations for two open Board positions. Terms would begin in December, following a confirmation vote at the November 17 Board of Directors meeting, and run through June 2029.

If you have ever wondered whether Board service might be for you, this is the moment to consider it. We are looking for parents who care about CCA and are willing to learn the work, not finished experts. Strong schools depend on engaged families, and the Board is one of the most direct ways to contribute to the community your children are part of every day.

How to Apply

Complete the Nomination Form by 5:00pm on Friday, October 16. The form walks through eligibility requirements and asks a few questions about your background, interests, and what you would hope to contribute.

Want to Learn More First?

If you would like more context before applying, the Board FAQ answers the questions we hear most often, including time commitment, committee structure, and what new members can expect in their first year.

For anything not covered there, please email Samuel Jay, the Vacancy Committee Chair, at sjay@cherrycreekacademy.org.

Timeline

  • Friday, October 16 at 5:00pm: Nominations close.

  • Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27: Candidate one-on-one interviews with a CCA Board member(s) and candidate interview with Vacancy Committee

  • Tuesday, November 17: Board votes on final candidates at the regular Board meeting.

  • December 2026: New Board members begin their three-year terms.

Thank you for considering this opportunity, and for the many ways our families already give to CCA. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

The CCA Board Vacancy Committee

Log Your Volunteer Hours! Log Your Volunteer Hours!

zoom_out_map

Please remember to log your volunteer hours as we wrap up the first quarter! Quarter 1 volunteer hour progress reports will be sent out to families after Fall Break, so take a quick moment to ensure all your recent contributions are recorded.

Whether you've volunteered in the classroom, attended a meeting, donated items, or won something from the silent auction, all of these contributions are deeply appreciated and matter to our school. For a quick refresher on our family volunteer hour expectations, please review our Volunteer Policy.

If you are having a hard time finding ways to get involved, please reach out! We are more than happy to help connect you with upcoming volunteer opportunities that fit your schedule and interests. Please contact Shoshana Howley for questions and assistance.

Thank you for everything you do to support our community!

It's Bullying Prevention Month and we have several activities and lessons planned for students. This week, students will engage in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons focused on friendship skills and healthy relationships, hear special morning announcements, and participate in "Taking the Pledge."

Upcoming Parent Events:

  • October 21 at 8:15am
    • CCA Connections - In honor of National Safe Schools Week and National Bullying Prevention Month, our October topic is all about student safety and well-being! Join us to connect with our school counselors, Lauren Sullivan and Angela Kamman, alongside CCA’s Resource Officer, Bea Quintana. Together, we'll dive into essential topics including bullying prevention, emergency preparedness, social-emotional health, and the support resources available to our students.
  • October 22 at 5:00pm
    • Parent Information Night (in person and virtual) - Join us for "More than Mean," a special presentation by CCA parent Dani Farrell, attorney and adjunct professor at DU's Sturm College of Law. Mrs. Farrell will break down the brain, the behavior, and the boundaries of bullying to help parents navigate this important issue.

Together, we make a difference! Thank you for partnering with us to build a kind and supportive school community. More information on upcoming activities will be shared throughout the month.

Dress Like a Book Character - October 30

All students are invited to dress like a book character on Friday, October 30, 2026. Students must identify which book character they are dressing like by having a copy of their book with them. Book characters chosen cannot be violent or scary. No weapons are allowed to be carried. Book character dress must be appropriate for students to remain in all day. Free dress guidelines must be followed.

We will have a Literacy Parade in the gym where all of our K-4 students will show their book characters and books to our middle school students. Our middle school students will actively be looking for different book characters and will be entered into a drawing for identifying the most book characters.

All students planning to dress up (K-8) must fill out the Dress Like a Book Character Day form before October 30.

The Eagles Nest Nurse Corner: Cold & Flu Season The Eagles Nest Nurse Corner: Cold & Flu Season

Cold and flu season is here! Here’s a quick way to tell the difference:

COLD: Usually comes on gradually with a runny/stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, mild cough, and mild fatigue. Fever is less common.

FLU: Often comes on suddenly with fever/chills, body aches, headache, fatigue, and cough. Kids may also experience vomiting or diarrhea.

When Should My Child Stay Home?

CCA follows CDPHE’s “How Sick Is Too Sick?” guidelines. Students should stay home with a fever of 100.4°F or higher, vomiting/diarrhea, difficulty breathing, or if they are not well enough to participate in their normal school day.

CDPHE How Sick Is Too Sick?

Remember: handwashing, hydration, good sleep, and keeping sick kiddos home help keep our school healthy!

5th Annual CCA Silent Auction 5th Annual CCA Silent Auction

Parent Teacher Organization Auction logo

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR KIDS! Last year we raised $27,000, and this year YOU helped us raise $33,926!

Why This One Matters & Thank You to The Community

This is the PTO’s BIGGEST fundraiser of the year! Every dollar raised covers field trip transportation for our kiddos — every student, in every grade, all year long.

Thank you to this amazing community! First you came together and helped sourced items…then you played the game - hopefully had some fun - , and most importantly, pitched in for a cause that reaches every single student at CCA. We couldn't be more grateful!!!!!!

Additionally, a HUGE thank you is owed to our teachers - many of whom will be spending extra time with our kids over the coming months to put on the experiences made for the auction - and to our admin - Travis, Annemarie, Dakota, Sadie, Sandra, and Shoshana. Each one of the last list do so much behind the scenes to support our students and this event!

📌 FYI on Logistics

To those who won an item or purchased a buy-now, you should start to see emails from the committee regarding how to retrieve your items - the instructions will vary based on what you bought. Those emails will also discuss logistics for scheduling and planning staff experiences. Please be patient as it does take a few weeks to get everything sorted!

There are, however, two generic dates that apply to about 75% of the staff experiences that we ask you take note of:

  • Staff Lunch Experiences are scheduled for January 22, 2027. We will also have alternate dates for if that date does not work for the teacher and/or student for any reason.

  • For-A-Day Experiences are scheduled for January 28, 2027.

🎁 A HUGE Thank You to Our Committee!

The auction is the PTO's biggest fundraiser, and it's also one of our biggest undertakings. Thank you to the below grop of moms for pouring in your time, energy and heart to make this such a great event.

  • Theresa Letman

  • Jessica Finnessy

  • Shannon Fiala

  • Sally DeHetre
