🐾 Principal’s Message: Let's Get This Year Started!

8/11/2026

Dear Westview Families,

Tomorrow is the big day when we will welcome all of our students back to kick off another new school year and we can't wait to see all of our students again!

Thank you to the many students and families who joined us for Meet the Teacher last night! We were thrilled with the incredible turnout, with nearly half of our students and families in attendance. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, and we look forward to welcoming our returning Wildcats tomorrow and meeting the new students joining our Wildcat community.

Tomorrow marks the first day of an exciting new school year! Below, you will find important information that will help ensure a smooth and successful first day for everyone. Please take a few moments to review it carefully and share the information with your child. We cannot wait to welcome our Wildcats back to school!

With Wildcat pride,

Dr. Emily Delgado
Principal
Westview Middle School

Please review these arrival procedures with your child to help us begin the school year safely and successfully.

Parent Drop-Off and Walkers

  • Students who walk to school or are dropped off by a parent will enter through the front entrance near the flagpole.
  • The front doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and staff will be ready to greet students.
  • Parents who wish to walk their child to the entrance must park their vehicle before doing so.
  • Parents using the drop-off line should enter through the circular drive and pull forward to the covered walkway near the front doors.
  • Students should exit at the front of the line so traffic can continue moving safely and efficiently.
  • After entering, students may go to the cafeteria for breakfast. All meals at Westview are free for every student.

Bus Riders

  • Bus stop locations and pickup times are available through the PfISD Route Finder link.
  • Students should be at their assigned stop and ready to board at the time listed in Route Finder.
  • Buses may arrive slightly earlier or later than expected during the first few days of school. Please be patient and have your child remain at the stop.
  • Buses will drop students off in the bus loop at the back of the building.
  • Bus riders will enter the building beginning at 7:45 a.m.

Entering the Hallways

Beginning at 7:45 a.m., students may go to the cafeteria for breakfast or report to their grade-level hallway:

  • 6th Grade: 200 Hall
  • 7th Grade: 300 Hall
  • 8th Grade: 400 Hall

Students will line the perimeter of their assigned hallway and wait to be dismissed to first period. Alphabetical lists of student names and first-period classroom locations will be posted in the hallways to help students find their classes.

Students will receive their most up-to-date schedule in first period. Our counselors are working diligently to complete the many schedule-change requests received yesterday. Schedules distributed tomorrow should reflect requests submitted through last night.

We are not accepting additional schedule-change requests at this time. The request window will reopen tomorrow and remain available through August 20.

Westview has three lunch periods:

  • A Lunch: Primarily 6th grade
  • B Lunch: Primarily 7th grade
  • C Lunch: Primarily 8th grade

Lunch assignments are based on each student’s fifth-period class. Students enrolled in a mixed-grade-level elective during fifth period may be assigned a lunch outside their grade level.

Students will have assigned seating and will sit with their fifth-period class during lunch.

Meals and Outside Food

  • Breakfast and lunch are free for all Westview students.
  • Students are also welcome to bring a packed lunch from home.
  • Restaurant food may not be delivered to students during the school day by parents, family members, or food-delivery services.
  • If you would like to bring your child a special lunch, you are welcome to check your child out through the front office and enjoy lunch together at the shaded picnic tables in front of the school.
  • After lunch, you must return to the office and sign your child back in before they return to class.

First Day of School Dismissal First Day of School Dismissal

  • School dismisses at 3:35 p.m.
  • Students will be dismissed by hallway.

Parent Pick-Up

  • Parents picking up students should enter and line up in the front pick-up loop.
  • Once your child has entered your vehicle, please carefully move into the left lane to pass the remaining line and exit the loop.
  • Staff members will be stationed outside to help students locate their vehicles and monitor the front of the school.
  • Student monitoring typically ends at 3:50 p.m.
  • During the first few days of school, staff will remain available longer to help ensure that every student gets home safely.

Bus Dismissal

  • Buses may run later than usual during the first few days of school as drivers and students become familiar with their routes.
  • Your child’s arrival time at home may not match the estimated time listed in the PfISD Route Finder.
  • Please be patient as transportation staff work through the normal first-week adjustments.
  • On a typical school day, all buses will have picked up students and departed from our campus by 3:45 p.m.

Westview Dress Code: A Quick Guide

Please help your child arrive at school ready to learn by remembering these four dress-code guidelines:

  • Students must wear: A shirt that meets the waistband in the front, back, and on both sides; pants, jeans, shorts, a skirt, dress, leggings, or similar bottoms; and shoes. For PE, students need rubber-soled athletic shoes with closed toes, sides, and heels—no cleats, elevated soles, or wheels.
  • Students may wear: Backpacks, opaque leggings, yoga pants, skinny jeans, ripped jeans that do not expose undergarments, tank tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, and athletic clothing. Sleepwear is permitted only on designated campus days.
  • Faces and ears must remain visible: Religious headwear, hats, and other head coverings are allowed, but they may not prevent staff from easily identifying a student. Hoods (hoodies) and other items should not be worn on the student's head. An exception is made for religious attire.
  • Students may not wear: Strapless shirts or dresses; clothing that exposes undergarments, other than straps or waistbands; swimsuits unless required for an approved activity; dangerous accessories; or clothing displaying violence, drugs, alcohol, illegal activity, hate speech, profanity, pornography, or messages that target or intimidate protected or marginalized groups.

If a Student Is Out of Dress Code

We will make every effort to help students correct a dress-code concern by providing available shirts or pants. If we are unable to provide an appropriate clothing item, a parent or guardian will need to bring the student a change of clothes before the student can return to class.

Student Aide Applications

Eighth grade students interested in serving as a student aide for one class period this year must complete an application and participate in the selection process. Student aides may have the opportunity to serve in the main office, library, or a classroom, depending on available placements and campus needs.

Serving as a student aide is a great opportunity for responsible students to support their school, develop leadership skills, and make a positive contribution to the Wildcat community. It is only available to 8th grade students.

Application Timeline

Wednesday, August 12
Student aide applications will be released on the first day of school.

Wednesday, August 19
Completed applications are due.

How Students Will Be Selected

Applications will be evaluated using a scoring rubric that considers:

  • The student’s reason for wanting to serve as an aide
  • Academic performance
  • Attendance history
  • Disciplinary history

All proposed student aide placements must also be approved by the student’s assistant principal. Applying does not guarantee that a student will be selected or placed.

Students who are dependable, responsible, and interested in serving their school community are encouraged to apply. Ms. Jo Patrick, our librarian, will coordinate the application and placement process. If you have any questions, please contact Jo.Patrick@pfisd.net.
