February ... ruining golf swings for centuries.
That is, unless you're down south or your name is Tom Corritore! I heard the man was out there with a shovel, all by himself, clearing you a path to the practice shed. Glad to hear a bunch of our members are taking Brian up on the simulator this winter. If you haven't gotten a chance yet, it's a pretty nice setup.
Your 2026 Tournament Committee met recently to discuss this year's schedule of events. We are excited for the start of the tournament season, and we look forward to trying out some new ideas for social events. Whether you're a returning member or coming out to join us for the first time, we think everyone will enjoy what the HBGC membership has to offer.
To our new members, you can expect a more official welcome as the season draws near. We are thrilled to have you join us, and I'm confident that you will find the current members and staff to be extremely helpful and inviting. I will be sending out a lot of information in the near future to help you with your start at Honeybrook. In the meantime, you can get a feel of what we offer by checking out some of our past newsletters linked at the bottom of this edition.
Until the snow melts and the grass turns green, keep thinking warm thoughts!

February Member Spotlight
Jim "Barney" Barnett
Years as a Member: Since 2010
Hometown: Yonkers, New York
Handicap: 10ish
How did you first get into golf?
In high school, my dad’s brothers, Ray and Harold, would bring me to Dunwoodie, a municipal course in Yonkers. They were very serious about golf and they taught me the comportment side of golf. If I was guessing, Harold was about a 15 handicap and Ray would have been a 6 or so. I remember the first time I took money from them on Dunwoodie and it was a good day for sure. Ray passed without ever making a hole-in-one and that drove him wild. Both really good guys and I miss those matches.
What do you enjoy most about being a member at our club?
While I love the Honeybrook layout and how beautiful it is, my favorite thing about our club is the membership. What a tremendous group of friends I have met at HB – it is truly a fantastic aspect of my life. The weekday matches are fun and the events, which are run to perfection, are a great way to keep in touch with my competitive nature. One other thing I enjoy is the inclusive nature of Honeybrook. Most clubs keep membership events divided by gender. At the Brook, we all play together and I think that is a really nice aspect of our membership.
Best golf memory or proudest moment:
I have won a few events at Honeybrook but the two things that come to mind are the Member-Guest when my kindergarten buddy, Joe Tucker, and I compete together. We played little league together and everything afterward and the annual weekend in June is fantastic. However, my most memorable event was the Memorial Day better ball with Ellis Chandler. Ellie’s wife, Tracey, was very ill and it was special winning that weekend. I was forced to play 12 holes myself because Ellis was called to the hospital but I hung in. That Sunday, together we went low and it was horribly emotional for me and my buddy, Ellis.
Go-to club in your bag:
I hit my 60-degree wedge a lot. Mostly because I miss too many greens. So I think that would be my choice.
Favorite hole at our course:
I think the views on 12 are spectacular. They’re always changing with the seasons. I try to remember to take them in. We are lucky to have such pretty views. I’m looking forward to being tested on the new number 4. The redesign looks great and while the views are not as stunning as 12, it is a great hole.
Playing partners usually describe your game as:
My playing partners would rather talk about my neat scorecard than my golf game. We have many good players, so my middling game is seldom a topic of discussion.
Golf goals for this season:
I’d like to have another 69, it would be my second one. The benefit of being 67 and using some forward tees makes that a reasonable goal. Tuck and I making the shootout in the Member-Guest or being in the hunt in the Member-Member with Ellis are always goals. The Piersol cup is always a highlight because you need to win six matches across the summer. I’ve come close, but I hope to someday cross that finish line. Lastly, the USA side regaining the Clash for the Cup would be, as always, a great way to cap 2026.
OFF THE COURSE
Occupation:
I was a VP of global sales in telecommunications. I worked for 3 different companies across my career: MCI, Concert, and AT&T. I had the good fortune of traveling the world and meeting incredible people on the journey - many lifelong friends and some luminaries in the field. I had dinner with the real father of the internet, Vinton Cerf. Mary and I socialized with Bill McGowan, the CEO of MCI, who was the driving force in the breakup of AT&Ts telecom monopoly. I met Orville Wright, the son of the inventor. He was a board member and I will always remember the stories he shared while we sat on a bench and drank a coffee. I was incredibly lucky to have randomly found my roles and enjoyed heading to work most days.
Hobbies/Interests:
I have become a part-time author. My third book, Finding His Word, was just released on Amazon. The cover art was done by Eddie Castaldi. My first book, Very Bad Lies, has a cover by another member, Warren Reyburn. These two talented guys really added to my efforts.

I love to follow the New York teams and that fact causes many comments from my Philly friends at the club. The Yankees and Giants are my favorites. I enjoy playing poker and I also like nice cigars.
Family:
I have been married to my wonderful wife, Mary, since 1982. She would say six wonderful years. I am immensely proud of my three adult daughters, Jessica, Jennifer, and Kasey. I have three grandchildren who I adore. Abigail, Scarlett and Benjamin are kind and smart and bring a smile to my face anytime I think of them.
Closing Quote or Advice for New Members:
I think that all members should expand the circle they play in. Meeting all the members in the member games expands the benefit of the membership exponentially. It makes it so valuable. I also suggest playing in every tournament you can. It will bring you joy. Lastly, don’t take it too seriously. Remember, it’s a game and we all have good and bad days. At the end, it’s the people that you played with that really is the prize.
