Kindergartden Staggered Start

Dear Fairfax Kindergarten Families (Children with Last Names S–Z),

We are excited to welcome your child to Fairfax Elementary and can't wait to begin an amazing school year together!

This year, we have made a slight adjustment to our Kindergarten Staggered Start schedule for students with last names S–Z who are NOT assigned to Mrs. Nelson's or Mrs. Klein's classrooms (and are expected to be placed in either Mrs. Pollutro's or Mrs. Kallay's class).

Because Mrs. Kallay will be helping her daughter move to college on Friday, August 21, it is important to both me and our kindergarten team that you have the opportunity to meet your child's teacher—rather than a substitute teacher—on your child's staggered start day.

Instead of attending on Friday, August 21, students with last names S–Z will attend their Kindergarten Staggered Start by appointment on either Wednesday, August 19, or Thursday, August 20, depending on the date your family selects. Your child will attend only one staggered start day.

Mrs. Pollutro and Mrs. Kallay will begin calling the households of students with the last name S–Z by Thursday, August 13, to schedule your child's new staggered start date and answer any questions you may have.

Kindergarten Staggered Start Schedule

• Wednesday, August 19: Students with last names A–I and S–Z (by appointment)

• Thursday, August 20: Students with last names J–R and S–Z (by appointment)

• Friday, August 21: No kindergarten students will attend school.

On Thursday evening (August 20) or Friday (August 21) all families will receive a phone call with their child's classroom teacher.

Monday, August 24 will be the first full day of kindergarten for all students. We will celebrate this exciting milestone with our annual Kindergarten Clap-In at 8:45 AM at the front entrance as we officially welcome our newest Fairfax Tigers!

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to provide every kindergarten student with a smooth, welcoming, and successful start to the school year. We look forward to partnering with your family and welcoming your child to Fairfax!

Sincerely,

Dr. Walker, Mrs. Kallay and Mrs. Pollutro
