School Safety Day is Tomorrow

Safety Day is coming up tomorrow, August 19th. On this day, students will take part in a series of safety drills, including fire, severe weather, and lockdown procedures. Our team is trained to guide students through each procedure using age-appropriate language and explanations. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Early Release Wednesdays Start this Wednesday

This week we will begin Early Release Wednesdays, dismissing at 1:50 pm every Wednesday. This weekly time will allow our staff to receive valuable professional development, including math, reading, data analysis, and family communication.

If you usually pick up your students at 3:30 and are able to pick them up at 1:50 at Wednesdays, please follow your usual procedure for carpool or walk up dismissal. If you are able to pick up at 1:50 pm, please do so, as this allows more of our staff to participate in professional development.

If you usually pick up your students at 3:30 but are not able to pick them up at 1:50 on Wednesdays, we will provide free supervision until you arrive at 3:30. Our non-teaching staff will provide this supervision, allowing students time to complete homework, read, and participate in other activities. Please note that students will be asked not to use cell phones or other electronic devices during this time. No registration is needed. You may pick up anytime before 3:30 pm by parking checking in at the front desk.

If your students usually participate in the Operation Breakthrough program after-school, we will provide supervision at school until the bus arrives around 3:30 to pick them up.

If your students are registered for Camp Fire, they will be dismissed straight to Camp Fire at 1:50 pm. You will pick them up according to your usual procedure.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Free & Reduced Lunch Forms

We ask that every family enrolled fill out the Free & Reduced Lunch form every year to ensure that all families have the opportunity to take advantage of the program. If you have not yet completed the form, please turn it in as soon as possible.

The form can be downloaded here (English or Spanish) or picked up at the front desk. You may either drop off the completed form at the front desk or send a clear photo to Mr. Blake at blake.smith@cwckansascity.org - please feel free to reach out to him with any questions about the form or the FRL program.

DashPass App for Dismissal

We will be rolling out the new DashPass app soon, so please make sure all parent and guardian information is up-to-date in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal! An invitation to connect with the school through DashPass will be sent to the parent and guardian emails on file, and only adults with permission and access to the app will be allowed to pick up your child.

Keep an eye out on your email and text for more info soon regarding DashPass!

Fifth & Emery Fundraiser this Friday

Let's celebrate our first full week of school by meeting up at Fifth & Emery (formerly Yogurtini) on the Plaza after school on Friday! When you check out, show them the image below or the flyer that will be coming home this week, and 20% of your sales will be donated back to the school to help fund student activities and teacher appreciation efforts! See you there!

Volunteering at Citizens

If you are hoping to volunteer at Citizens during the school day, whether it is as a field trip chaperone, as a tutor in the classroom, or in other capacities around the school building, now is a great time to complete your background checks! Processing times can be as long as 2-3 weeks, and we want you to be prepared to jump in and help without waiting for your clearances later in the year.

Visit www.cwckansascity.org/volunteer (also available through the Family Dashboard) to get more information about these processes and to see a list of current volunteer opportunities.

If you have previously completed these screenings for Citizens, you do not need to do them again!

Please reach out to Ms. Gina at gina.hines@cwckansascity.org with any questions regarding background checks and volunteer opportunities.

Curriculum Night - August 28th

Please join us on Thursday, August 28th for Curriculum/Title I Night! We will first gather in the MPR at 6 pm for a presentation from school leaders. Families will then be dismissed to their student's classrooms to receive information from teachers for specific grade levels. There will be two sessions available for families needing to attend for multiple children. Sessions will last 20 minutes, and students are welcome to attend!

Don’t wait until October conferences to connect with your child’s teacher - start the conversation now and set your student up for success! This night is your chance to see what’s ahead, learn how to support learning at home, and build that home-school connection early.

The schedule is as follows:

6:00-6:30 - Presentation from school leaders (for all families, in MPR)

6:40-7:00 - Grade Level Presentations (for all families, in classrooms)

7:10-7:30 - Grade Level Presentations (only for families with more than one CWC student)

2024-2025 MAP Scores

Scores from the 2025 Missouri MAP Test will be available for 4th through 8th graders at Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 28th.
