โš“ La Mirada Second Graders Become โ€œEveryday Heroesโ€ Aboard the USS Midway โš“ La Mirada Second Graders Become โ€œEveryday Heroesโ€ Aboard the USS Midway

On Monday, September 14, 2026, La Mirada Elementary School second-grade students visited the USS Midway Museum as part of the Everyday Heroes educational program. The program provides students with an engaging learning experience aboard the historic aircraft carrier while introducing them to important qualities such as courage, teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, and service to others.

Students were filled with excitement as they stepped aboard the Midway, explored the ship, viewed aircraft up close, and learned about life aboard an aircraft carrier. Throughout the visit, students had opportunities to ask questions, make connections to what they are learning in the classroom, and discover how ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference through their actions and service.

The experience provided La Mirada students with a memorable opportunity to learn beyond the classroom while reinforcing the importance of character, leadership, and helping others. Through educational partnerships and experiences like the Everyday Heroes program, the District continues to empower students to recognize their own potential to make a positive difference in their schools, families, and community.

๐Ÿ“š ยกTodos a Leer Kicks Off at Willow Elementary! ๐Ÿ“– ๐Ÿ“š ยกTodos a Leer Kicks Off at Willow Elementary! ๐Ÿ“–

On Friday, September 18, 2026, Willow Elementary School kicked off Univision San Diegoโ€™s inspiring โ€œTodos a Leerโ€ literacy initiative with its sixth-grade students! The program began with a special visit from Univision San Diego anchor/reporter Heder Casas, who read to Ms. Carriedoโ€™s students and shared her experiences in journalism and the media.

This exciting partnership gives Willow students the opportunity to hear high-quality, bilingual, grade-level books read aloud by Univision San Diego news anchors, reporters, and other media personalities. Additional special guests from Univision San Diego will visit Willow throughout the program, bringing new stories, experiences, and inspiration to our Roadrunners. ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽค

Todos a Leer is designed to inspire students to become avid, lifelong bilingual readers while celebrating the importance of literacy in both English and Spanish. Beyond reading, students will also have opportunities to learn about careers in journalism, news reporting, media, and the editorial processโ€”providing a behind-the-scenes look at how stories are developed and shared with the community.

We are grateful to Univision San Diego, anchor/reporter Heder Casas, and News Director Carlos Tamez for helping us launch this wonderful experience and for encouraging our students to read, dream, and discover the possibilities for their future! ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

ยกTodos a Leer! โ€” Because every great journey begins with a book. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ“–
