IMPROVING GIFTED IDENTIFICATION

CSD has been utilizing the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) as a universal screening tool to identify students who may have outstanding intellectual abilities requiring specialized services. This test has verbal, math and non-verbal reasoning sections all of which contain culturally biased elements which skew student results data. Another universal screening tool, the Naglieri Non-Verbal Ability Test, was specifically designed as a non-culturally biased test of cognitive ability. CSD will be replacing the use of the CogAT as a universal screening tool with the Naglieri in order to better serve our diverse student body.
