Climate-resilient pollinator habitats across Minnesota landscapes
Curious about how climate change is impacting pollinators? Wondering how Minnesota’s diverse ecosystems contribute to supporting their habitats? Join us for this engaging webinar series to learn how you can support pollinators in any space—big or small—and help build resilient ecosystems in the face of climate change.
University of Minnesota Extension educators are excited to bring you this webinar series on learning more about our pollinators. This four-part series will cover how the changing climate affects pollinators, the role of pollinators in food production, ideas for establishing pollinator habitat in small spaces, and how woodlands can serve as another pollinator habitat.
Join us January 27, 28, 29 and 30 from 1:00-2:30 p.m. CST each afternoon for this free webinar. You must pre-register for this series at z.umn.edu/BeeSeries to receive the webinar links.
Getting started with woodland stewardship
If you own property with woodlands or are interested in stewarding woodlands owned by others, Extension has gathered extensive resources that can help you become a successful woodland steward. This includes woodland stewardship principles, goal setting, finding a woodland professional and cost share options.
This starter guide is particularly useful for people interested in becoming stewards of woodlands greater than an acre in size and for those who do not have a history of woodland ownership in their families.
Minnesota’s forests and woodlands are diverse. From forests with many deciduous trees in southeastern Minnesota to the conifers that dominate much of northern Minnesota, there is the perfect tree and forest for everyone.
MN Family Woodlands Conference
Extension’s woodland owner conference returns to northern Minnesota! Register now for the Minnesota Family Woodlands Conference happening Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Grand Rapids. This event will bring together woodland stewards from across northern Minnesota to share insights on the importance of managing our northern forests. Learn more and register here: z.umn.edu/MFWC25
Find and Treat Invasive Species this Fall with Carlton SWCD's Rental Program
Buckthorn, bush honeysuckle, amur maple, black locust, and Siberian elm.
Are these invasive species in your forest?
Now is the time to survey the land and check for any of these species that may be trying to take over. These species aren't in tune with Minnesota's seasons and hold onto their leaves longer than normal. Now that most native plants have dropped their leaves, it is the perfect time to spot these lingering green leaves and eradicate these invasive plants before they spread.
Visit the rental page on their website for more information!
Need help identifying invasive plants? Check out MN Department of Natural Resource's webpage for identification guides.
