Each recipient was presented with an etched crystal trophy along with citations presented by PA Senator Frank Farry and PA Representative Joe Hogan, both of whom attended the ceremony.
Nominations for this year's ceremony were drawn from the Neshaminy community during the spring. An awards committee from the Neshaminy Education Foundation made the final decision.
Each of the honorees are recognized for outstanding lifetime achievement in post-graduation pursuits of business, the arts, academics, the military, government and/or community service. The purpose of the ceremony is to share the district’s pride in its alumni and to inspire the current students of Neshaminy with the stories of success from those that came before them.

Winter is coming...be prepared!
Some long-range forecasts are calling for lots of snow on the ground this winter. Whether or not that turns out to be true, it is always good to be prepared. Here is a reminder of Neshaminy's inclement weather procedures:
- Weather alerts will be shared by email, text alert, Neshaminy district and school websites, and the district Facebook page. School closures and delayed openings will also be shared with local TV stations (CBS-3, ABC-6, NBC-10, FOX-29).
- All Neshaminy parents and guardians are urged to check their contact information in Home Access Center to ensure they are receiving communications. When winter weather is predicted, please check often for updates and alerts.
Two-hour delay starting times are as follows:
- Neshaminy High School: 9:16 AM
- Middle Schools: 9:55 AM
- Elementary Schools: 11:10 AM
The Neshaminy community will be notified as early as possible for early dismissals and afternoon and evening activities cancellations. Depending on the circumstances, students will be dismissed on one of the following schedules:
- Early Dismissal Plan A (with lunch): Neshaminy High School: 11:30 AM, Middle Schools: 12:15 PM, Elementary Schools: 1:00 PM
- Early Dismissal Plan B (without lunch): Neshaminy High School: 10:00 AM, Middle Schools: 10:30 AM, Elementary Schools: 11:00 AM
Neshaminy Kids Club before and after-school follows the district lead but issues their own weather alerts. Private school transportation will not be provided when Neshaminy schools are closed due to inclement weather.
Deck the halls with some holiday reading
With the holiday season now upon us, the Neshaminy librarians are celebrating light reading over the upcoming breaks with a magazine collection on the Sora Reading App. Students can launch the Sora application to browse the hundreds of magazines available to them.
school safety training supports emotional and physical well-being
In spring 2024, the Neshaminy Pupil Services Department began planning for staff training in the PREPaRE model. PREPaRE is a national program that helps school mental health professionals and educators understand their roles on a school crisis response team during the 2025–2026 school year. PREPaRE is a two-day training developed by educators with real experience working through school crises. It is one of the few complete training programs made specifically for schools. The first group of Neshaminy staff members completed the training in November. A second group will take the training this spring.
The PREPaRE framework teaches teamwork, clear communication, and how to support the physical safety and emotional well-being of students and staff. As more staff members complete this work, our district strengthens its crisis response system. This helps our schools stay safe, calm, and ready to respond when challenges occur. Read more about this program at the link below.

BOARD THANKS OUTGOING MEMBERS
At the November 25th meeting, three outgoing members of the School Board were thanked for their service and contributions to the district. John Allen (10 years of service), Alicia Lafferty (4 years of service) and Kellen Sporny (4 years of service) have completed their terms following the recent election and will be replaced by newly elected members at the December 1, 2025 Board Reorganization Meeting.
COMMITTEE UPDATES
The Educational Development Committee met on November 18. The committee received updates on several initiatives that are being implemented or are in the planning stages including:
PA STEELS (Science Standards) Implementation Updates: The state has rolled out new standards, which emphasize teaching science in a more hands-on, problem-solving way. To facilitate this transition, a STEM STEELS leadership team of teachers and administrators is guiding these changes and support staff at all levels.
At the high school, teachers reviewed two fully standards-aligned science curricula, BSCS Biology and OpenSciEd. Physics classes will begin implementation of these pilot programs in January while chemistry and biology will implement later in the year. The middle school Amplify science curriculum is already mostly aligned with the new standards. Elementary schools are piloting two programs - FOSS and OpenSciEd - with all 3rd and 5th grade classes using one of the two. A group of second-grade teachers is in their second year of piloting these programs, providing helpful multi-year feedback.
Middle School Schedules: Plans to unify daily class schedules for grades 5-8 are being considered. Currently the fifth grade operates on a different schedule than grades 6-8.
Personal Finance Graduation Requirement: The committee is exploring ways to implement a new personal finance class at the high school. This will be a new graduation requirement for all students in Pennsylvania and will begin in the 2026-2027 school year.
Upcoming Meetings
The next Board meeting will be held on Monday, December 1, at 7 pm. This is the board reorganization meeting and the only board meeting scheduled for December. All meetings are held in the District Board Room at Maple Point. The meeting video livestream, agenda and archive video of past meetings can be found at www.neshaminy.org/meetings.
COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Attending a committee meeting is a great way to interact with School Board members and district administrators in a less formal, more conversational setting. Committee meetings are held throughout the school year. No committee meetings are scheduled for December. Upcoming committee meetings in 2026 include:
- Tuesday, January 6: Educational Development Committee
- Wednesday, January 21: Business Operations Committee
- Thursday, January 22: Policy Committee
All committee meetings are held at 6:30 pm in the District Board Room at Maple Point unless otherwise noted. Times and dates may change — please check the Neshaminy district website for updates.

REDUCE ILLNESS AND BOOST ATTENDANCE!
During the winter, families and friends spend more time indoors. This can make common illnesses easier to spread. To help reduce illness and keep students in school, please remember these best practices:
- Hand Washing: Regular handwashing at home and school helps prevent the spread of many illnesses. Teaching and practicing proper handwashing lowers the chance of germs spreading.
- Respiratory Etiquette: Teach children to cover their mouths and noses with a tissue when they cough or sneeze. Throw used tissues in the trash right away. If a tissue is not available, students and staff should cough or sneeze into their elbow, not their hands. Hands should be washed right after blowing the nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Vaccinations: Staying up to date with recommended vaccinations is important for preventing illness and reducing the risk of severe disease. School vaccination requirements help protect students from vaccine-preventable diseases. Information about required school immunizations is available at the NSD vaccination website.
Food drives make for happier holidays
The holiday food drives at every Neshaminy school once again provided scores of complete holiday meals for Neshaminy families and filled food pantries in our schools and in the community. The Neshaminy community stepped up with thousands of donated food items, hundreds of frozen turkeys, and thousands in cash donations and gift cards to make sure that no Neshaminy family goes hungry this holiday season. Thanks to all of the donors, and the students, staff, School Resource Officers and PTO volunteers who sorted and distributed the items.
In the video above, Middletown Township School Resource Officer Missy Robison talks about the supplemental food drive held in November. PTO volunteer Maria Gatta along with officers from Middletown and Lower Southampton Police Departments organized the drive to fill in any gaps in the school holiday food drives. The Neshaminy Education Foundation lent its online fundraising accounts to the effort and raised over $2,600 from the community to support the effort. Over 10,000 pounds of food moved through Maple Point Middle School during the supplemental drive.
- 300+ families were served with full Thanksgiving meals and additional boxes of staples.
- 34 hot platters will be provided for families in temporary residences by 1675 The Ridges in Feasterville-Trevose.
- Donations were made to 5 local food-insecurity partners that directly serve Neshaminy families.
- The online donation drive collected enough funds to provide a holiday meal and a bag of groceries for winter break distribution to every family in need across the district.
On November 24, the fourth grade Student Council at Walter Miller ES organized food donations for the school's November Thanksgiving Food Drive into twenty meals that were distributed to 20 Miller families. This was organized by the students, who played an active role in promoting the drive and sorting the donations, Guidance Counselor Deborah Glasson and the WMES PTO. Extra items will be donated to local food pantries.

Stream Table offers hands-on lesson on soil erosion at Tawanka
In the video above, students in Scott Blaydon's fourth-grade class at Tawanka ES demonstrate a soil erosion project that they have been working on. Using a special table on loan from the Bucks County Conservation District, they were able to build a miniature landform complete with different kinds of soil, barriers and even tiny houses that just happen to look like game dice. They then poured water over their creation to simulate a stream and see firsthand the effect it had on the various elements.
Core Creek holds their inaugural turkey trot and mascot race
Core Creek ES staff and students got the Thanksgiving holiday season off to a running start on Tuesday, November 25.
Students learn about military life from those in the know
Matt Allen is a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy Reserves, and the Director of Veterans Affairs in Bucks County. He is also dad to a student at Herbert Hoover ES. He visited the school on November 12 and taught the children in Ms. Bunje's kindergarten class about what it means to serve in the military, to be a veteran, and more about the Navy specifically. The students were able to color the picture from The Battle of Iwo Jima, give Mr. Allen and other veterans a craft to thank them for their service and take home a Veterans Affairs Challenge Coin. They were all thankful for this opportunity and his service.
Fourth-graders celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Marines by meeting an actual Marine on November 10. Lance Corporal Colin Olszewski visited the school and spoke about the history and mission of the Marines and his service. He joined two years ago and is now stationed at a base in Washington D.C. Cpl. Olszewski is the brother of fourth-grade teacher Ainsley Olszewski.
Schweitzer promotes positivity with a new celebration
Albert Schweitzer ES Students of the Month for September and October.
This year Albert Schweitzer Elementary School has added another way to recognize students for positive behaviors-Student of the Month! Each month, one student is selected from each grade level to be recognized. September was for the “C” in CARES for Cooperation. October was for the “A” in CARES for exhibiting a positive attitude each and every day. November will be for the “R” and demonstrating Respect. Congratulations to all those students that have already been recognized! (September and October Student pics attached)
High school students help out new Hawks with Heart club at Hoover
Hoover ES launched a new Service Learning Club involving 40 students across all grade levels. The club provides opportunities for young learners to develop leadership skills while participating in meaningful community service. The club’s mission is to engage students in collaborative projects that promote empathy, responsibility, and a commitment to helping others.
To kick off the program, members of the Neshaminy HS Interact Club visited Hoover to interview students applying for the club’s first leadership positions. The high school volunteers conducted supportive, friendly interviews that helped younger students build confidence and practice important communication skills. The partnership was coordinated by Hoover Elementary Hawks With Heart advisor Pam Ballard and Neshaminy High School Interact advisor Suzi Drake.
Poquessing welcomes Temple University Dean
Poquessing Middle School was honored to host a visit by Monika W. Shealey, Dean of the Temple University College of Education and Human Development on November 20. Dean Shealey had the opportunity to tour the school and speak with multiple staff members (some who are Temple graduates) about the educational programs and culture at Poquessing, the challenges of providing individualized and equitable learning opportunities to each student, and how the strong Neshaminy and Temple University educational community helps support professional and academic success.
Sandburg's Donna Ferro honored
In early November, four Neshaminy Physical Education Department Teachers attended the Shape PA State Conference. (Kathleen Kenney, Ferris Kelly, Donna Ferro & Brooke Lesser). On Thursday night, Carl Sandburg MS teacher Donna Ferro received the Middle School Teacher of the Year Award (see the article in the April, 2025 Neshaminy Update). Donna was supported by her husband Matt Ferro and her son, a Penn State Senior, Tony Ferro. At the conference, the group learned new strategies and lesson ideas that they are excited to share out to the PE staff. They also enjoyed celebrating Donna's proud recognition!
sandburg class enjoys a football adventure
Kayle Brobst's class at Carl Sandburg MS is one of the many in the area taking part in something called NFeLementary. It is an added activity involving NFL teams each student drafted at the beginning of the year. The company FOCO sent bags for their drafted teams, and the kids were thrilled. They earned them by diving into NFeLementary — a fun, in-class football adventure that strengthens research skills, teamwork, problem-solving, communication, creativity, and presentation skills.

Fall festival celebrates inclusion
Maple Point MS seventh grade Team C held their annual Fall Fest in early November. This day of fun and games helps to foster trust, improve problem-solving abilities, and help students learn to appreciate different perspectives, leading to a more inclusive and supportive environment. When students bond through shared experiences, it can create a more positive and supportive classroom atmosphere where everyone feels like a contributing member. The team welcomed parent volunteers and Mrs. Balent, a former MP secretary, to join the fun.
NHS Team hosts debate league meet
On Wednesday, November 19, Neshaminy HS hosted the Southeastern Pennsylvania Debate League Meet #2. Thirteen schools from across the region participated, bringing together more than 150 individual competitors and 56 judges. Students competed in a variety of events, including Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Duo Interpretation, and Original Oratory. With support from National Honor Society volunteers and members of the Neshaminy Speech and Debate Club, the team also ran a successful bake sale and snack stand throughout the event.
The Neshaminy High School Speech and Debate Team has now grown to more than 40 students strong! Congratulations to all who competed, and best of luck with the remaining meets scheduled for this season.

In Memoriam
On October 31, 2025, two Neshaminy High School students lost their lives in a tragic car accident along with one other non-Neshaminy student. A fourth passenger was seriously injured in the accident. The hearts of the entire Neshaminy community go out to all the victims’ families and friends, along with all the students and staff at the high school who knew them. These young people were more than students — they were friends, classmates, and members of our school family.
