NAESP - Report to Parents: 10 Kid-Friendly Ideas for Volunteering
January is the start of the new calendar year, and a opportunity to set goals and approaches for 2024! Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on January 15th, this year, and many families throughout the community participate in acts of volunteering on this day-off from school. With this in mind, this month's NAESP: Report to Parents highlights 10 kid-friendly ways your family, friends, and neighbors might help others through volunteering during this month!
"Volunteering teaches kids the importance of giving back to their communities. It also helps them grow as people, build strong self-esteem, develop social and life skills, and show appreciation. Families can use these kid-friendly volunteer ideas to encourage their children to make a difference in their community and help them cultivate compassion, empathy, and a passion for helping others."

Winter Months and Recess Preparations
Butler Elementary will always follow safety measures in place as it reflects our ability to hold recess outdoors during the winter months. Our plan will always be to go outside, but in making that determination, we will follow the safety measures of CBSD. This includes taking into account: the temperature, real-time wind speeds, precipitation, and the cold index temperature table. With this in mind, please be sure your child is always prepared to play outdoors so they are warm and comfortable. We do not have a space with additional supervision available in the event your child forgets to bring their coat, hat, gloves, etc. Thank you for reminding your child before they leave for school each day!
Butler Lost & Found
Butler has acquired a collection of jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, and water bottles across varied outdoor recesses throughout the start of the school year until now. For those of you who have come for parent conferences, you noticed the racks of hangers holding items from our Butler Bear students. The clothing racks will remain up through the Winter Break (Dec. 22nd) in our main lobby, so if you cannot seem to find your child's warm, outdoor clothing at home, there is a good chance it was left behind at school waiting for your retrieval! Please visit the main office to peruse the racks to find you child's missing item!
CB Realignment Plan - Community Feedback Link
In anticipation of the grade level realignment, the district extends an open invitation to parents, guardians, students, and community members to provide their questions and feedback here. We greatly value your input as it plays a vital role in our decision-making process, ensuring that our choices are in the best interest of our entire community. Butler 3rd Grade Classroom Spreads Holiday Cheer to Local Hospital
Prior to the winter break, Mrs. Gilluly's 3rd Grade, created “Cards for Patients” in an effort to help cheer up those who spent the holidays in the hospital. The students had a heartwarming conversation about kindness and empathy for these individuals. Our special hospital connection is a Butler parent, Mrs. Hunter, who was able to help them with delivery. The students wrote sweet, uplifting messages for the patients which let each recipient know they were being considered during their time away from their homes. It was a thoughtful and heartfelt connection to our greater community!

Butler Assembly Series - "RESPECT" Spells Hip Hop! w/ DJ Reggie - 12/18
Butler Elementary and the Butler PTO highlighted a Character Education Assembly Program called RESPECT Spells: Hip Hop identifying many of our attributes that define our school community. Ideas like Respect, Responsibility, Kindness/Caring were the focus of DJ Reggie's presentation - that involved positive hip hop songs and dancing to help us feel good about our school. He highlighted the importance of students trying their best in school because of how hard their parents and teachers work for them each day to learn and be able to go to a school like Butler Elementary. By the looks on their faces - the children K-6 had a blast! Thank you to Mrs. Beaver (organizer) and the Butler PTO!
