I'm proud to announce that Yampa Valley High School has received a Performance rating, which is the highest level schools can earn. Measured among nearly 100 other Alternative Education Campuses (AECs) in Colorado, YVHS is performing very well! Overall YVHS Exceeds expectations in academic achievement (PSAT/SAT) and postsecondary workforce readiness, compared to other AECs! We are Approaching proficiency when it comes to student engagement and academic growth. We already have things in the works to address these areas for improvement, so we feel really good about the trajectory of YVHS. Huge thanks to our hard-working staff, our engaged parents, and our amazing learners!! It feels great to be a Performance school, along with all of our other SSSD schools!

Me enorgullece anunciar que la Preparatoria Yampa Valley ha recibido una calificación de Rendimiento, el nivel más alto que pueden obtener las escuelas. Comparada con casi 100 Campus de Educación Alternativa (CEA) en Colorado, ¡YVHS tiene un excelente desempeño! En general, YVHS supera las expectativas en rendimiento académico (PSAT/SAT) y preparación para la fuerza laboral postsecundaria, en comparación con otros CEA. Nos estamos acercando al nivel de competencia en cuanto a participación estudiantil y crecimiento académico. We just want to remind everyone that classes begin at 8:20AM each day. Having students trickle in over a 30-40 minute time period is disruptive to others, and so much instruction has been missed by that time. If being 10 minutes late each day is equivalent to missing 1.5 weeks of the school year, being late 20-30 minutes each day is even more detrimental.

We know that it is sometimes difficult to get teens out of the house on time, and we appreciate your many efforts to steer them in the right direction. However you are encouraging them and sending the message that school is their highest priority "job" right now, we appreciate all of your efforts!

We want students to come to school feeling and being ready to learn, and for learning environments to be as fluid and uninterrupted as possible. This is a win for learners and teachers!

Thank you again for all of your help. We can do better!!

Solo quiero recordarles que las clases comienzan a las 8:20 a. m. todos los días. ¡Hoy, el 60% de los estudiantes llegaron tarde! Las aulas estaban prácticamente vacías esta mañana mientras los maestros impartían clases. Que los estudiantes lleguen poco a poco durante un período de 30 a 40 minutos interrumpe a los demás, y para entonces se ha perdido mucha instrucción. Si llegar 10 minutos tarde cada día equivale a perder una semana y media del año escolar, llegar 20 a 30 minutos tarde cada día es aún más perjudicial.

Sabemos que a veces es difícil sacar a los adolescentes de casa a tiempo, y agradecemos sus esfuerzos por guiarlos en la dirección correcta. Sin embargo, les están animando y transmitiendo el mensaje de que la escuela es su prioridad ahora mismo, ¡agradecemos todos sus esfuerzos!

Queremos que los estudiantes vengan a la escuela sintiéndose y listos para aprender, y que los entornos de aprendizaje sean lo más fluidos e ininterrumpidos posible. ¡Esto es una victoria para los estudiantes y los maestros!

Yampa Valley High School is celebrating Matt Caron, who is one of our district’s amazing bus drivers! He has volunteered to pick up lunches from SSHS cafeteria and deliver them to YVHS daily. He even throws in some of his own snacks for the kids! Taking on this responsibility has already had such a positive impact, not only by ensuring students get more uninterrupted support, but also by having another friendly adult who students see consistently. Matt is also helping to plan field trips that are in line with different areas of educational focus. He tries to go on every field trip with YVHS, actively participating in the events while getting to know students better. Thank you, Matt, for showing our students how much you value them! The impact is immeasurable.

La Preparatoria Yampa Valley celebra a Matt Caron, ¡uno de los increíbles conductores de autobús de nuestro distrito! Se ha ofrecido como voluntario para recoger almuerzos de la cafetería de SSHS y entregarlos a YVHS a diario. ¡Incluso les trae algunos de sus propios bocadillos a los niños! Free Vaccine Clinic at Strawberry Park – September 25

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s mobile public health clinic will be at the Strawberry Park Elementary and Middle School campus on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to provide free childhood vaccines for any school district student.

The clinic has 30 appointments available. Families are encouraged to secure a spot by registering online at:

In the registration portal, search for “Strawberry Park Elementary School Vaccine Clinic.”

Walk-ins will be accepted as time and supplies allow. Parents do not need to be present for scheduled appointments.

Fall Season Starts August 25 – Now Recruiting!

We’re now enrolling girls for our Fall Mountain Bike Program, which runs August 25 through October 15.
The application is LIVE here.

This program is open to 5th- 12th grade girls — no prior experience needed.
We provide everything a girl needs to ride, including a bike, helmet, gear, and transportation from school.

Our goal is to remove barriers and make it easy for girls to get outside, build confidence, and be part of something positive.

Dear SSSD Families,

Parents/guardians are asked to review and update household information, emergency contacts, and waivers and releases for their students every year. You can now complete your annual student update online through your Alma Start account.

This is a reminder that all parents and guardians of students who attend SSSD schools must complete the Annual Update by May 30 to update their proof of residency within SSSD boundaries.

Additionally, all parents and guardians of Inter- and Intra-District students must apply annually if they wish to enroll their student in a school outside of their boundaries. All Inter- and Intra-district students will be reviewed annually at each building and at the District level. This change reflects recent updates to our Inter- and Intra-District policies.
