Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs) Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs)

A Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) is a document created for students who are identified as Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG). The DEP is a yearly plan that outlines the services a student receives. Your AIG lead teacher will be in touch regarding your child’s Differentiated Education Plan.

Things to remember about your child’s DEP:

  • Initiated each year

  • Outlines a service delivery plan to span one academic year

  • Includes an annual goal for your child

Each school will host a DEP Parent Night to discuss the DEP process. You may also access the presentation below that includes an overview of this process.

Math

Students will be developing and practicing critical-thinking skills to deepen their understanding of new concepts while drawing logical conclusions. We will be using the “Hands-On Equations Learning System," a manipulatives-based curriculum that introduces students to algebraic linear equations. Students will also be using deductive thinking by solving a variety of Three Act Math Tasks. These fun and engaging tasks are based on three parts (acts) of: presenting a problem, collecting data, and revealing your answer.

Reading

Students will be exploring the wonder of words and diving deep into the excitement of reading interpretation. We will begin by participating in activities designed to make connections around word meaning and the power of word choice. Students will also be participating in critical analyses of texts including a book study entitled "The Eleventh Hour." These activities will encourage students to expand their understanding of what they read.

Intellectually Gifted (IG):

Students will be working to develop interpersonal skills of teamwork, creativity, leadership, work ethic, and communication through collaborative activities. We will begin by learning that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when functioning in a group. Activities will include tasks designed to help students move past challenges in an effective way. Students will also be working as part of a team to tackle difficult questions called Tanglers while applying their understanding of different group roles.

*At the end of the year, students will participate in a school and/or district based culminating event.
