What is CYFCT?

The Child, Youth, and Family Crisis Team (CYFCT) is a voluntary, crisis outreach team with the ability t respond and provide crisis services in the community (e.g. homes, schools, shelters, juvenile courts). Length of service and crisis stabilization can last up to 8 weeks of stabilization services. Services come at no cost to the family/youth.

Who does CYFCT serve?

The team serves youth and children who are experiencing a behavioral health (mental health and/or substance abuse) crisis regardless of their funding source. This service is available to anyone 20 years old or younger who is physically located in Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties and is experiencing a behavioral health crisis or is in a pre-crisis situation that seems to be deteriorating without intervention and could result in a behavioral health crisis.

Approach to care

CYFCT offers short-term crisis intervention and stabilization services utilizing strength-based, solution-focused, culturally competent, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented interventions, with a client-centered approach that tailors care to the unique needs and circumstances of each individual.

Goal of CYFCT

CYFCT consists of a group of behavioral health professionals, including crisis clinicians, and certified peer counselors, who collaborate with the individual in crisis and their family members to develop a plan. The plan focuses on getting through the current crisis, managing future crises, and moving towards recovery.

How to access this service

To access this service, call or text 988 the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or the VOA Crisis Response Services (the Care Crisis Line) at 1-800-584-3578 -- available 24/7 -- to speak with a mental health professional who will assess the situation, make appropriate referrals, and/or dispatch the CYFCT community-based outreach team.

Psychiatric Urgent Care Clinic.

What: Same-day in-person and virtual (video) visits providing mental and behavioral health crisis assessment, initial treatment recommendations and referral to follow-up resources in the community. Care is provided by our experienced team of licensed mental health therapists, family advocates/case managers, psychiatric advanced practice providers (APPs) and medical assistants.

Who: Designed for youth ages 4 through 17 who are experiencing a mental health crisis and need same-day intervention but do not need the services of an emergency department (ED). We care for all Washington youth ages 4 through 17, including children and teens with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When: Open daily from noon to 8 p.m.; closed on major holidays.

Where: We see youth in person at Seattle Children’s Magnuson, located at 6901 Sand Point Way NE in Seattle, and through video visits from anywhere in Washington state. We recommend scheduling a same-day in-person appointment online or getting in the virtual line for a video visit. We have very limited capacity to see walk-ins and cannot guarantee walk-in access.

Please encourage families who live outside the Seattle area to use the virtual/video option. They must be physically in Washington state during the video visit.

How: Before scheduling a visit, learn whether to go to Psychiatric Urgent Care or an ED. A referral is not required.

  • For in-person visits, schedule a same-day appointment online. (Scheduling opens at 12:01 am daily.)
  • For video visits from anywhere in Washington state, get in the virtual line to be seen. (The first spots in virtual line open at 11:30 am daily.)
  • Please note that spots in the virtual line will open up throughout the clinic day, please encourage youth and families to regularly check back for availability.
  • Please note we have very limited capacity to see walk-ins and cannot guarantee walk-in access. Please encourage patients/families to schedule an in-person appointment online or get in the virtual line to be seen for a video visit.

Why: This new service – the first of its kind in the Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho region – is part of Seattle Children’s ongoing commitment to building out the continuum of care to ensure children and teens receive the right level of care at the right time. Psychiatric Urgent Care is intended to connect children and teens in Washington state to faster crisis assessment and follow-up resources in the community.

Please note that patients seen in the Psychiatric Urgent Care Clinic will not access other outpatient psychiatry services at Seattle Children’s faster than those referred through the normal process.
