Welcome to Thurston High School
Colts and Colt Families:
We are excited to welcome all of our incoming 9th grade students to campus this Wednesday, September 9th! Students will spend the day connecting with their homeroom teacher and classmates and exploring campus.
The gates and cafeteria will open at 7:30 a.m. Free breakfast is available for all students. Hard copies of student's schedules will be handed out in the main courtyard starting at 7:45 a.m. We will begin in the Auditorium at 8:00 a.m.
Students do not need any school supplies for the first day. As a reminder, personal electronics must be stored off and in a zipped bag or backpack from 8:00 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
It is going to be a great year.
Go Colts!

School Supplies
As you begin to gather the supplies like a backpack, binder, notebooks, paper, dividers, pens/pencils, calculator (TI-30XS), compass, protractor, and whiteboard markers, it is good to be aware of our school policies for dress code (p. 49-50). Clothing that depicts or advertises alcohol, drugs, or weapons; or are vulgar, obscene, or ridicule a particular person or group are not permitted on campus or at any school sponsored activity. Please encourage your student to choose their back to school clothing with care.
School Calendar
Our first A Day is Thursday, September 10th.
Our first B Day is Friday, September 11th.
Three Keys for On-Time Graduation
Our goal is for every student to graduate from high school on-time and with the skills they need to live a life of their choosing.
Our teachers and staff work hard to ensure students succeed. The most important thing students can do to graduate on time is to attend school everyday. Regular attendance is the foundation for student success.
When students need to miss school for any reason, we encourage parents to contact our attendance office at 541-744-5027 or at ths-attendance@springfield.k12.or.us. This allows our attendance office to deactivate the automated attendance call notifying you of your child's absences and ensures that the absence is reported accurately to your student's teachers. Students turning in a doctor / orthodontist appointment slip to student services will be marked absent-excused. Our staff are here to work alongside you and help students attend consistently.
Message from the Principal: Plan Your Path
We are Colts: Caring, Brave, Prepared
At THS, we support our students to be caring, brave, and prepared.
- Caring is about looking out for our community. Incoming students have a chance to learn about student life at THS and consider how they can get involved. Our staff and students work together to make Thurston a place students want to be.
- Brave is about showing up for the things you're passionate about and being willing to take academic risks to reach your goals. Students can plan explore a wide range of academic options at THS. We offer more that 80 elective courses, organized into 15 areas of study.
- Prepared is about being ready for what comes next. Setting goals, exploring your options, and having the skills to adapt to changing circumstances is critical to success beyond high school. Our honors diplomas help our students being to think beyond high school.
