TEMPLE WOMEN'S TENNIS NEWSLETTER

On April 11th, the Temple Tennis program hosted a Tennis Alumni Event on campus. Alumni from recent graduating classes met with current players and coaches on the new outdoor courts for food, tennis, and bonding! Join us at our next event, details are below!

Temple Women's Tennis was honored at the Stella Awards for having the highest GPA of any athletic team at Temple during the 2025-2026 year. In addition to that the Owls received a perfect Academic Progress Rate Score.

Please introduce yourself. My name is Alexa Gamborino. I'm from Mexico, and I'm a student-athlete and journalism major graduating this month.

Why did you choose Temple? I chose Temple because of its amazing location and strong journalism program. The tennis team is also super nice, which made it an easy decision.

Who's your favorite tennis player? My favorite player is Novak Djokovic, the one and only.

What's your favorite tennis surface? Hard court, without a doubt. It really suits my game.

What's your favorite memory at Temple this year? My favorite memory was probably spring break with the girls, sitting by the pool, talking about everything, and just laughing together. It was such a special time.

Did you have any pre-match superstitions in college? Definitely. I'm very picky with my routines. If I'm on a winning streak, I feel like I have to do the exact same things every time, no exceptions.

The Temple women's tennis team closed out its 2026 season on Thursday, April 16, falling to UAB 4-0 in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament in Houston, Texas. Though the result was tough, the Owls headed into the postseason having shown real fight down the stretch of the regular season.

In their final two regular season matches, Temple claimed a hard-fought 4-3 victory over FDU on April 9 before dropping a narrow 3-4 decision to Drexel the very next day.

Against UAB in the tournament, the Blazers came out sharp and took control early. UAB swept the first two doubles positions to clinch the doubles point, while the No. 3 doubles pairing for Temple was left unfinished with the match already decided. In singles, UAB finished off three completed matches to seal the 4-0 result. Still, there were bright spots — Irmak Ozturk battled back at No. 1 singles to take a dominant second set after dropping the first, and several other matches were left unfinished with the Owls still competing when the outcome was clinched.

That's a wrap on the Temple Women's Tennis Newsletter for the 2025-26 season! Thank you so much for reading and following along with us throughout the year. Your support means everything to this program! We'll be back in September with new editions. Enjoy the summer and go Owls! 🦉
