Teamwork

This month's wellness video is about Teamwork. Good collaboration supports positive mental health, as effective teamwork can reduce stress and keep workloads manageable. Collaboration is all about getting the best results and the best possible result through working together.

Individuals have their own set of skills and strengths. When the whole team works as a unit, everyone has an opportunity to learn from each other. This process leads to resource building and enables the team to become better equipped to deal with new challenges. Teamwork can improve efficiency, productivity, and work satisfaction while helping to decrease staff burnout. Teamwork can significantly contribute to career growth by fostering collaboration, expanding professional networks, and promoting skill development. Working effectively with others allows you to leverage diverse strengths, learn from different perspectives, and enhance your problem-solving abilities.

If you need extra support to persevere through tough times in life, please ask about utilizing our EAP supports. You have access to counseling, coaching, and REALiving Connect Wellness Visits.

Thank you gift: A Cooling Towel!

Each of the 5 years of the Project AWARE grant, we have been able to utilize some funds to give all staff a THANK YOU gift at the end of the year related to wellness. This is the fifth and last year of the grant. We will be sending out a Cardinal Care cooling towel during the month of May to all of the buildings. These are to say THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!

Here's how to use a cooling towel:

  1. Soak the towel in cool water for two to three minutes.
  2. Wring out excess water.
  3. Snap the fabric with a few shakes.
  4. Wrap, drape, or wear it around your neck, head, or wrists.
  5. Re-wet as needed.
  6. Rinse and dry after use.

Cooling towels are water-activated and use evaporation to draw water away from the body. They can help keep the body temperature low to prevent heat exhaustion or stroke. You can use them for sports and exercise, physical treatment, or daily life.

Restructuring for next year

The Project AWARE grant has come to an end. The last day of the grant was on April 29th, 2024. With grant funds ending, and student enrollment declining, some restructuring was needed in order to keep mental health supports in our district. So what will things look like next year...

I have accepted the position of CVHS Principal/Mental Health Coordinator! This will allow me to utilize my Principal License as well as keep the mental health supports in our district going. I could not be more excited about the adventure ahead. I look forward to working with the staff and students at CVHS. It is with great excitement and a deep sense of responsibility that I step into this role, and I am eager to work collaboratively with the staff at CVHS to continue the tradition of excellence that Chippewa Valley High School is known for.

I am committed to serving our students, supporting our dedicated staff, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This also means that we are able to keep our mental health supports as is! I will continue to coordinate the supports, network with the community, and work with all of the schools in our district to support our students and their family members. Shannon Larson will continue to be our district's Mental Health Navigator.

The other change will be that EAP will be going back to Human Resources next year. It has been a pleasure supporting our staff through EAP this year. I will work with our new Human Resources Director to ensure a smooth transition.

The UW-Madison Population Health Institute has recognized our District's Student and Family Assistance Program as a Success Story. This success story highlights the impactful utilization of the grant we've been fortunate to have over the past five years. Here is a link to the success story.

I believe this recognition speaks volumes about the dedication and hard work involved in our program. It's a testament to our shared commitment to supporting our students and families in meaningful ways.

I encourage you to take a moment to read the success story linked in this email. It's a wonderful acknowledgment of the positive impact we are making in our community.

American Association of Suicidology Conference

I was lucky to be able to present with Elaine de Mello who is the Director of Suicide Prevention Services for NAMI New Hampshire at the American Association of Suicidology Conference in Las Vegas. We presented on suicide postvention models. The presentation was titled: Postvention Models: State, Communities and Campus Approaches to Response after a Sudden Death or Suicide. I was able to present on Chippewa County's experience of getting trained by NAMI New Hampshire and then using that training to create Chippewa County's Sudden Death to Include Suicide Postvention Handbook and Grief Resource Guide.

How to Refer a Student for School Based Mental Health

The referral process to refer a student for School Based Mental Health (SBMH) services or to the Student and Family Assistance Program (SFAP) has been revamped recently. We would like to share the updated Referral Process Flow Charts along with the new Staff Member Referral Form which is now a Google Form. This information can be found on the cardinalcare.info website and is located under Staff Resources.

An important step in the staff referral process is to connect with Pupil Services staff in your building to have a discussion before making the referral.

All Parent and Youth Coaching referrals should also be communicated with Pupil Services staff in your building and that information can be emailed to Shannon Larson at larsonsr@chipfalls.org OR mentalhealthnav@chipfalls.org. You do not need to complete the Staff Member Referral Form to refer to Parent or Youth Coaching.

The Staff Member Referral Form can be found HERE.

What is a Professional Coach?

As a professional striving to be your BEST, you may seek someone at times to help you achieve a goal or improve your performance. A coach is there to help with professional development in areas such as organizational skills, leadership development, communication skills, and work/life balance. Important questions to ask yourself as you start the coaching process are: "What do I want to get out of this? What abilities and skill sets do I want to discover and master? How do I want to show up differently so I am my BEST?

A BESTology Professional Coach can also help you navigate setting up EAP resources.

CONSULTATION AVAILABLE!

Any staff member can call 855-838-7170 at any time for consultation. This means you can call and ask for support if you are seeing a student with high behaviors or if you see a trend in your classroom. REALiving can help give you some ideas of what to do.
