The 24/25 Yearbook Wins a National Award!
Our 2024–2025 Yearbook has earned a truly prestigious honor! The book is proudly showcased in the 2026 Look Book as an example of excellence, creativity, inclusion, and innovation.
Under the leadership of Yearbook Advisor Suzy Heilman, this talented group of student journalists created a publication that stands out at the highest level. The yearbook was awarded the Gold Achiever Award in the Program of Excellence — a remarkable achievement that reflects the team’s dedication and hard work.
Notable elements that set this book apart include strong, detailed captioning, extensive student coverage, and the creative use of photo strips to tell dynamic, engaging stories.
Congratulations to Ms. Heilman and the entire 24/25 Yearbook staff on this outstanding accomplishment!

Transportation Issues
We know transportation has been a major concern—and improving it is our top priority.
On March 3, the School Board received an update on transportation performance, staffing efforts, immediate actions, and potential solutions to reduce complexity and improve the system. The meeting was informational only; no decisions were made and no votes were taken.
We invite you to learn more about the challenges and possible changes being discussed.
District 196 will continue updating the Transportation webpage as changes are implemented.

Students and parents should plan to visit college/university campuses on non-school days or outside of school hours. If this is not possible and students will be absent three or more school days, a Pre-Planned Authorization Form must be filled out, signed and authorized prior to the absence. If this process is followed, the absence will be verified. Forms are available in the attendance office.
Pre-Planned Absence Procedure
Attendance Reminder:
Students absent 3 or more days for a pre-planned absence should complete the “Pre-Planned Authorization” form.
The forms are located in the EHS Attendance Office.
- The form should be completed and submitted prior to the planned absence. We recommend at least one week or more in advance.
- The student is responsible for arranging make-up assignments with all teachers before the absence to receive credit for the work.
- Vacation absences beyond 5 days will be marked as unexcused. These absences will count in the excessive absence policy.
