News from Mrs. Penny & Mrs. Barker
Pre-Registration for 23-24 School Year
Parents and guardians of current Frisco ISD students will receive emails April 4-14, 2023 with instructions on how to begin the registration process for the 2022-23 school year.
Keep an eye out: The email will include a unique snapcode and instructions to complete the online PowerSchool Registration process for each student.
If you have multiple students, you will not receive all of these invitation emails at the same time.
Families must provide proof of residency each year as a final step in the annual registration process.
Updated immunization records may be required to finalize registration before the new school year begins.

News from Nurse Wade
It's Spring and allergies are in full swing!
Allergies may come and go but can be easily treated with over-the-counter allergy medications, so your student is not suffering from itchy watery eyes, continuous runny/congested nose, sore throat, or disruptive cough while at school. If you have any doubt, and think that your child's symptoms are cold related, please monitor your students at home for fever. Reach out to your child's doctor for symptoms that do not improve.
Help protect yourself from getting and spreading Pink Eye (conjunctivitis).
Pink eye is highly contagious. If your student wakes with pink eye symptoms, please keep them at home and contact their doctor. Symptoms include:
- Redness or swelling
- Watery eyes
- A gritty feel
- Itchiness, irritation, or burning
- Discharge
- Crusting of the eyelids or lashes

Mystery Reader Program Sign Up
A Mystery Reader program is a guest reader, BUT their identity is kept secret to build anticipation and excitement. Teachers may even choose to give clues before they arrive to get the students extra excited!
FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. To volunteer at Rogers Elementary, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.
Click on the links below to sign up for a time slot during the school day to read-aloud to your child's class.
GMR Visitors Welcome! Must Sign up
We are pleased to open our doors for GMR visitors to attend our assemblies. Please note that there are limited spots available and a sign up is required to attend.
Also please note that GMR is no longer every single Friday.
Please make sure to arrive a few minutes early to present your photo ID and get checked in!
Lunch Visitors - SIGN UP REQUIRED
Lunch visitors have begun on campus and we have enjoyed seeing families have a meal with their students!
Please remember that sign ups are required in order to eat lunch on campus with your student. If the sign up for the grade level is full and a parent comes to eat lunch, unfortunately we will not be able to accommodate you that day. The sign up is linked below for quick access!
As a reminder, we ask that parents visit 1-2 times per month to allow all interested visitors the opportunity to eat lunch with their student. You must bring an ID in order to be granted access to the building.
Finally, we ask that you do not park in the fire lane.

April’s Character Trait is Grit
Why does Grit Matter?
Excellence sometimes seems like the result of natural talent. But no matter how gifted you are—no matter how easily you climb up the learning curve—you do need to do that climbing. There are no shortcuts. Grit predicts accomplishing challenging goals of personal significance. For example, grittier students are more likely to graduate from high school, and grittier cadets are more likely to complete their training at West Point. Notably, in most research studies, grit and measures of talent and IQ are unrelated, suggesting that talent puts no limits on the capacity for passion and perseverance.
Pulse Check
To gauge your current Level of Grit, consider how true the following are for you:
-I enjoy projects that take years to complete. I am working towards a very long-term goal.
-What I do each day is connected to my deepest personal values.
-There is at least one subject or activity that I never get bored of thinking about.
-Setbacks don’t discourage me for long. I am a hard worker.
-I finish whatever I begin.
-I never stop working to improve.
How Do I Encourage Grit in Others?
Model it. If you love what you do, let others know. Wear your passion on your sleeve. When you fail, openly share your frustration but go out of your way to point out what you learned from the experience. Emphasize playing the long game—life is a marathon, not a sprint.
Celebrate it. When you see grit, draw attention to it: “Your work this past quarter has demonstrated enormous dedication. I know it wasn’t always easy.” Praise passion: “You’re so into this! That’s just awesome!”
Enable it. The paradox of grit is that the steely determination of individuals is made possible by the warmth and support of friends, families, teachers, and mentors. Don’t let people you love quit on a bad day.
