ELAC Meetings ELAC Meetings

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a school-level committee that gives parents of English Language Learners a direct voice in their child's education. Required in California public schools with 21 or more English learners, ELAC advises the principal and staff on academic programs, services, and funding for multilingual students. The committee also assesses student needs, promotes attendance, and helps families navigate school policies and the reclassification process. While all parents and community members are welcome to attend, the majority of voting members are parents of English learners, providing a dedicated space for families to advocate for their children and connect with school resources.

Thank you for supporting our student-athletes! To ensure a positive and respectful environment at all athletic events, we ask that all spectators follow our Spectator Code of Conduct. Please positively support all athletes, respect officials, coaches, and players, and demonstrate good sportsmanship and self-control. We encourage everyone to keep language clean and family-friendly, show school spirit without noisemakers or music, and acknowledge the hard work of both teams. Let’s focus on encouragement rather than criticism. Spectators who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the event. Together, we can create a welcoming atmosphere for our students and families.

Friendly reminder to the Mayfair Middle & High School community that there will be no school on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day. We hope all of our students, staff, and families take this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy a safe holiday weekend with loved ones. Have a wonderful long weekend, Monsoons, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to campus on Tuesday!

Reminders Reminders

Listed below are just a few important reminders (PLEASE READ):

  1. Mayfair Middle/High School does not permit any drop-offs or deliveries of food or other items. Please ensure that your student is prepared for the day when coming to school in the morning with their lunch, supplies, money, etc.
  2. Dress Code. For the 2026-2027 school year, we are trying to prepare our students for college and career ready with a dress code. Students will not be allowed to wear any inappropriate clothing which includes the following: No sheer, low cut, revealing blouses, bare midriff, or braless outfits, bathing suits, beach attire, tight or revealing, or strapless garments. Please be sure that your student follows the dress code and wears appropriate clothing and accessories. Also, students may not bring blankets to campus. Click here to access Mayfair's Dress Code Policy.
  3. No returning back to campus. If a student has an early release (7th or 8th period), once the student leaves campus, they may not return to campus during school hours. Parents - please ensure that your students are going home early if they have the early release. Note: Students who have a "home" period, must leave campus by the end of lunch, and are not allowed to remain unsupervised. Please review your students schedule so that you are aware when they will be leaving campus early (prior to 3:35).

Student Safety Protocols Student Safety Protocols

District Safety
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Maintaining safe and secure campuses remains a top priority. In accordance with BUSD Board Policy 5145.12 and applicable law, the District may conduct random safety screenings and searches, which can include students and their personal belongings, vehicles parked on District property, lockers and desks, contraband-detection K9 inspections, and metal-detector screenings.

These safety measures are designed to deter prohibited items, identify potential hazards, and help ensure a secure learning environment for all students and staff. We appreciate the cooperation of our students, families, and school community in supporting these efforts and helping us maintain safe schools where every student can learn and thrive.

Dress Code Reminders Dress Code Reminders

As the weather begins to warm up, we want to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to our school dress code to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for all. Clothing must cover undergarments at all times, and students should avoid wearing sheer, low-cut, or overly revealing attire, including excessive midriff exposure. For safety, appropriate and protective footwear is required at all times. Additionally, clothing and accessories should not disrupt the educational environment, and items such as hats, hoods, and beanies must be removed indoors. We appreciate your partnership in helping maintain a positive and focused school community by ensuring all students follow these guidelines each day.

School Policies School Policies

Bikes/skateboards/scooters

Students will not be allowed to have bikes, scooters or skateboards on campus. There are designated lock areas on the north and south ends of campus for students to securely store them during the school day. Riding and even walking them through campus presents a safety concern. Students are expected to pick up their belongings at the designated areas, and exit campus. Students are also required to walk their Bike, scooter or skateboard until they are completely off campus, which includes walkways and parking lots. Our goal is to insure safety for all students, we appreciate your support in upholding these expectations at home.

For the safety of all students and staff, riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards on campus is not permitted. Once students reach the school curb, they must walk their bikes and skateboards at all times. Motorbikes are not allowed on campus. All bikes, scooters, and skateboards must be properly locked to a designated bike rack only and should not be attached to gates or left in front of the school. Items left or locked outside of campus have been stolen in the past, and the school is not responsible for lost or stolen property.

Safety is a shared responsibility, both on and around campus. Students are expected to be cautious when crossing streets, follow all traffic and crossing rules, and use designated crosswalks. We have had students hit by cars this year, which underscores how important it is to stay alert and make safe choices when arriving to and leaving school. Taking these precautions helps protect not only individual students, but our entire school community.

  • Mayfair expects all student to wear a helmet when operating an e-bike, bicycle, skateboard or scooter.
  • These items are never to be ridden on campus, to include the parking lots, side walks, or front of school. They must be walked off of campus.
  • E-Motos (no pedals) or modified e bikes are not permitted at mayfair.
  • The sheriff's department may cite or impound illegal bikes brought to campus.

Parking Parking

Please ensure you are not parked in a no parking zone or at a red curb. Emergency response vehicles need access to campus and can not be blocked. If you violate this expectation, you may be cited or towed.

Tardy Policy Tardy Policy

Starting the week of August 24th, Mayfair is enforcing the tardy policy (which began last school year) where any student who is tardy to any class for three or more periods during a single week will be assigned lunch detention for the following week. Announcements have already been broadcast over the school intercom to inform students directly, but we want families to be aware that students must complete their assigned lunch detention to be removed from the "No-Go Minga List". Being on this list prevents students from attending special school events, which are considered privileges. Please discuss the importance of promptness with your child, as failing to serve a required lunch detention will result in additional consequences.

Mayfair Middle/High School students will utilize the app called Minga as a digital ID card. The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. The digital ID has a "live" interface, with a running digital clock and a moving background, thus preventing students from using a screenshot [Screenshots of ID are not permitted]. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone. If your child does not have a smartphone, don't worry - they will receive a printed ID card as well. Click here to access a quick document that shows you how to log into your school's Minga account.

A-G Requirements A-G Requirements

The A–G requirements are a sequence of 15 college-preparatory high school courses that California students must complete with a grade of "C" or better to be eligible for freshman admission to both the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. Designed to ensure graduates enter college fully prepared for advanced coursework, these requirements span seven core subject areas: History/Social Science (A), English (B), Mathematics (C), Laboratory Science (D), Language Other Than English (E), Visual & Performing Arts (F), and College-Prep Electives (G). While completing these 15 baseline courses meets the minimum criteria for eligibility, students are strongly encouraged to build a more competitive college profile by taking additional recommended years of math, science, and foreign language, as well as Advanced Placement (AP) or honors coursework. These requirements are separate from the BUSD Graduation Requirements.
