Students will only be able to try out if they have a completed DIAA Physical Form submitted to the nurse. Please be sure to schedule your physical now as this can be hard to obtain last minute! There are no exceptions as this is a DIAA rule. The form can be found on our website (link below) and must be filled out by a physician.

Who can tryout? 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls
*Please know that the designation of boys/girls teams is based on the league rules/DIAA guidelines. FSMA recognizes that not all students may not identify with one of these genders and will do our best to honor any requests.

When is the tryout?
Tryouts for the Girls Team will be on 11/15 from 4:00 – 5:30
Tryouts for the Boys Team will be on 11/14 and 11/16 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.

What do I need? In order to tryout, all students must have a completed DIAA physical form on file with the school nurse prior to 11/14. (All 7 pages must be filled out). This year’s form is available for download through the website’s main menu or can be requested from our nurse’s office. Forms must be turned in one week prior to tryouts in order to be processed by our nursing staff.

Coach: Carla Broadway and Jamie Summerfield will be back for their 2nd year as our Girls Team Coaches and Chris Lord will returning for his 5th year. (Assistant coaches are needed – please contact Courtney Fox if you are interested in being an assistant coach)

Cost: $60 Athletic Fee (financial assistance available upon request)/ Payment is not due until child makes the team.

After tryouts, a competitive team will be selected by the coaches. Practices will be held twice a week (Boys – Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 – 5:45/ Girls – Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. (students may stay after school). Practice will start on the week of 11/27

Game Schedule

Games start in December and we will be playing approximately 10 -12 games against other middle schools in New Castle County. Children are expected to attend all practices and games. Most games are after school. The games are posted on www.websites4sports.com. FSMA provides transportation to all games but students will need to picked up from home and away games or arrange rides home.

Away Games

The bus will leave FSMA with enough time for the players to arrive at the destination 30 minutes prior to the game. Players will change prior to leaving FSMA and must take everything they need with them as they will be picked up by a parent/adult at the game. FSMA does not provide transportation back to school.

Home Games

Players will be dismissed to the gym to change and warm-up prior to the game time. There is no bus transportation on these days and children must be picked up by a parent/adult after the game.

At all games, visitors are encouraged to come out and positively cheer on our basketball players. We hope you will support them in being positive role models, good sports, and strong representatives of FSMA.
