Cafeteria Renovation - Update PLEASE READ!
Dear JC Families,
I am writing to share an update regarding Phase 3 of our cafeteria renovation. Due to permitting delays, the start date has been adjusted from June 2 to June 8.
During the week of June 1–June 5, students will continue to use the cafeteria as usual, and we will also have full access to the gym. Please note that we will maintain the previously shared revised menu for students during this week.
Thank you for your flexibility and continued support as we move forward with this important project. We are hopeful that the work will be completed in time for the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Field Day Fun!
Our Field Day on Friday, May 22nd, was an incredible event and a true celebration of our school community. Scholars enjoyed a carnival-style experience filled with exciting activities, including tug-of-war, a parachute station, gaga ball, carnival row, ax throwing, an obstacle course, and more. Each grade proudly wore their designated Field Day t-shirts as they rotated from station to station, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every activity. From our youngest PreK learners to our 5th graders, all of our scholars joined in the fun, and the day was filled with laughter, joy, teamwork, and collaboration.
We were especially grateful to see so many families come out to support the event, enjoy the beautiful weather, and share in the excitement as their children had a fantastic time. Events like this highlight the strength of our school community and the positive spirit that defines our school.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make the day so special. We are grateful to Garden Catering for sponsoring lunch, to our staff for ensuring a safe and smooth event, and to our PE teachers, Mr. O’Brien and Mrs. James, for their leadership and planning. We also appreciate our parent volunteers for their support and donations, and extend a very special thank you to Mr. Martin Krupa for his generous donation of the obstacle course and carnival row, which were clear highlights of the day.
Soar like Eagles,
Eduardo Calderón and Claribel Michilena
World Language Open House
Our FLES Open House provided families with a wonderful opportunity to step into their child’s classroom and experience language learning in action. Students learning Spanish and French proudly demonstrated how they are introduced to the language and even invited family members to practice alongside them, creating an engaging and interactive experience for all.
Thank you to Mrs. Gryak and Ms. Hidalgo, our Spanish teachers, and Mrs. Esposito, our French teacher, for their professionalism, collaboration, and for organizing such a meaningful event for our school community.
As a magnet school focused on World Language, this was a powerful way to showcase what makes our school so special.
JC's Got Talent!
Our Talent Show last night was a celebration of creativity and confidence, featuring an impressive range of acts including singing, dancing, piano performances, magicians, a Rubik’s Cube expert, and even a hilarious staff performance that had the audience laughing, especially me! Our K–5 scholars truly showed up and impressed the crowd with their talent and courage on stage, making it a fun and memorable experience for all. A special thank you to Stephanie Krupa and Kate Barton for organizing this wonderful event, dedicating time to rehearsals, capturing beautiful photos for each performer to take home, and creating such a meaningful opportunity for our students. Thank you also to Martin Krupa and David Barton for running the concession stand. A great time was had!
Annual Spring Concert
Our Annual Spring Concert was a huge hit, showcasing the incredible talents of our student musicians. Under the direction of Ms. Brown (Band), Mrs. Sanford (Orchestra), and Ms. Champion (Chorus), along with pianist Kate Miserocchi, our scholars in grades 3–5 demonstrated the results of their hard work and dedication. We were proud to offer two performances, a morning concert for our entire K–5 student body and an evening performance for families, which was standing room only and a true testament to the support of our school community. From start to finish, our young musicians impressed us with their skill, confidence, and growth, making the concert a memorable celebration of their efforts.

June - Book of the Month 📖 Something, Someday
📚 JC Book of the Month: Something, Someday
by Amanda Gorman, Illustrated by Christian Robinson
In June, our JC community is reading Something, Someday by Amanda Gorman, illustrated by Caldecott Honor-winning illustrator Christian Robinson. Written by presidential inaugural poet and bestselling author Amanda Gorman, this inspiring picture book reminds readers that even the smallest acts of kindness, courage, and hope can create meaningful change in the world around us.
Through poetic language and vibrant illustrations, Something, Someday follows a community coming together to repair, rebuild, and care for what has been neglected- showing students that change often begins with one idea, one action, or one person willing to start. The story beautifully highlights themes of perseverance, empathy, collaboration, and the power of using your voice to make a difference.
This message connects especially well to the incredible weeklong work our Grade 4 students will be doing alongside visiting author Katie Petruzziello. Our Grade 4 authors will write, illustrate, and publish their very own picture books centered on a personal “Mighty Moment” of courage, growth, or perseverance. This authentic author experience reflects the bedrock of literacy- helping students see themselves not only as readers, but as writers, storytellers, and creators whose voices matter. Just like Something, Someday, this experience reminds students that their stories, ideas, and creativity have the power to inspire change and create something meaningful.
We are so excited to celebrate creativity, resilience, and student voice across our JC community. What a beautiful reminder that something small, someday, can grow into something extraordinary. ✨📚💛
