A Message From The Administration

Gratitude

by Angela Filion

The dictionary defines Grat·i·tude "as the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness." The month of November is a great time to pause and think about all that we should be thankful for. When people express gratitude to others it becomes contagious! For our school wide morning meeting this Friday November 15th Harmony students will be hosting with the theme of gratitude. Families of Harmony are welcome to attend from 8:10-8:30. This year the PBIS Universal team and our Wellness team have been partnering to spread acts of kindness and gratitude to the adults at Allen Brook. We believe it is important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that the faculty/staff bring each and every day to our young learners. So far this year we have shared a gorgeous afternoon together at a local corn maze, I went around with a coffee/donut cart(see picture below), we had a local tea company come to our school for a tea sampling, and adults are encouraged to write a note to a colleague to show appreciation for one another. We have many other things planned through out the year to pause and show gratitude to our amazing educators. WCS Murals Created by WCS Students with Artist Sally Duback WCS Murals Created by WCS Students with Artist Sally Duback

Thank you so much to Sara Beeken and Julie Rogers for spearheading the innovation fund project to bring artist Sally Duback back to our schools to work with students and create these two new beautiful murals.

Students were asked to make drawings about the themes of: diversity & inclusion and sustainability. The artist-in-residence, Sally Duback, composited those drawings and projected the composition onto large panels, which students outlined, then painted with Sally.

These two new works of art installed at WCS celebrate both our beautiful VT landscapes and natural resources as well as the message that "all are welcome" here.

Come see the results! Here are a few photos that show the process.

Hill Closings for Buses

On the occasions it is determined a Williston school bus will not be driving on a hill* road during the morning pick up, we hope to be able to contact families early enough for you to get students to a stop at the start of the hill to catch the bus. When the hills are closed in the morning, it includes hills on the preschool bus routes.Alternatively, during the afternoon bus runs, we will contact families to advise you that the bus will need to drop children off at the start of the hill, and you can meet the bus there if necessary. If no one arrives to meet younger students, they will be brought back to school until arrangements are made for them to be picked up. Please talk with your bus drivers to let them know if you are comfortable letting your child walk home from the drop off location.

We will use the Connect 5 automated calling system to send a voice message to families on the hill roads.

*These are the hill roads: Butternut, Highlands, Porterwood, Oak Knoll, Rabbits Run, Evergreen, Fortier, Douglas, Yantz Hill, lower River Cove, Meadow Ridge, Ledgewood, Bayberry, Terrace, Jasmine, Wild Ginger, French Hill**, Sunrise Drive, Sunset, Lincoln, Walker Hill.

**Students who live on or off Rt. 2 (Williston Rd) east of the 4-way intersection at the Federated Church should be picked up from school if the hills are closed in the afternoon, as the bus will not drive toward French Hill in bad weather.

Mark your calendars! Families as Partners is having our annual Fall Book Fair at WCS Monday, November 18th through Thursday, November 21st. This will be the first of two fairs, with the Spring Book Fair being held at ABS in the second half of the year. All students at WCS will have a chance to shop the book fair with their classes. ABS students will NOT be bused to WCS this year. Instead on the evening of Wednesday, November 20th we will be holding a special ABS night which will include games and prizes just for coming.

The Fall Book Fair theme is Arctic Adventure! Our fall book fair will be the perfect opportunity to stock up on books for the holidays! Among all of the amazing new releases and favorites, we will have the newly released Diary of a Whimpy Kid Book and will be taking preorders for the new Dog Man book being released in December.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help with set up, during the book fair and clean up. Please sign up at https://signup.com/go/sONzERG if you are interested in helping. Thank you for your support, all profits from the Book Fair go to benefit all of our Williston students at both schools. Hope to see you there!
