Digital Whiteboarding
Tech Tip Tuesday (February 11, 2024)
No smudges from last year's failed explanation of the Pythagorean theorem.
Digital whiteboards allow for anyone to learn easily and to collaborate during the brainstorming process. It's a way to supplement when you don't have a board, allow for students to collaborate in thinking and expressing a thought, or building those ways to make learning stick! Plus, a ton of them are already available for free WITH templates!
👥 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Foster collaboration like never before! Watch as your students work together, solving problems and creating projects on a shared digital canvas. Digital whiteboards allow students to collaborate in real time by sharing ideas, drawing diagrams, and creating mind maps. These tools are particularly effective for brainstorming sessions and visualizing concepts in subjects like science and social studies. Teachers can create interactive lessons where students contribute simultaneously, fostering a sense of teamwork and collective problem-solving.
🧠 Cater to Every Learner
While something I shouldn't ever pigeonhole students in or rely on, think about it from a UDL lens.
Visual learners? Check.
Auditory learners? You bet.
Kinesthetic learners? Absolutely!
With digital whiteboards, you're not just teaching – you're orchestrating a symphony of learning and can capture their ideas in real time with voice for everyone and choice in how they represent it.

Don't know how to respond? Use a YouTube explainer (this video is to explain Padlet Sandbox) or Canva Magic Write to help hone what you want to say.
Need a graphic? Canva Elements or Kami Shapes can make it.
No need to spend previous class time crafting from the top of the dome. Use the internet and AI for good!
ntroducing them to morphemes—those meaningful word parts—and academic language can make a huge difference. Think of morphemes as building blocks: understanding them helps kids decode tricky words, build their vocabulary, and become better readers and spellers. Plus, getting comfortable with academic language early on prepares them for the more complex stuff they'll see later in school, boosting their critical thinking and helping them express themselves clearly. By weaving these concepts into our lessons, we're giving our students powerful tools for lifelong learning and setting them up for success in all subjects!
Check out how these two tools can help with that for them and your planning & instruction!

Changes to one of edtech's Swiss Army Knife tools!
I'll highlight three big updates for Kami!
⁉️ Questions AI
- Questions AI is a new feature that allows teachers to automatically convert, create, and grade assessments. It includes a new questions side panel for more control and flexibility, and enables editing of assessments on the fly. These can be used across any of their LMS integrations such as Schoology or Google Classroom.
🧐 Understand
- One of their newest features, the Understand menu is now your go to for tools like the Dictionary tool and the Translate tool. The Dictionary tool remains accessible via the Understand menu, while the Translate feature allows users to translate selected text or a defined area by choosing a target language from a dropdown menu. Translation can be done by selecting text directly or by using a toggle to define an area for translation.
🕹️ Feature Control
- Feature Control in your Sharing settings lets you toggle on/off tools and features your collaborators can access when they open the shared Kami document. You can automatically set which tools students can use on an assignment! It's super helpful for those that are new to Kami or when you want students to be more efficient.
