It looks as though "Old Man Winter" is FINALLY closing the book on Fall ... fortunately the Brickies are STILL GOING!! This time of year is EXCITING!! Over the past few days, we saw senior harrier Cassie Cohen make her 4th trip to Terre Haute to compete in the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals and our Brickie football team play scary good on Halloween down in DeMotte against the Kougars!

Don't forget to turn your clocks back ... it's time for BricksCenter!

Cross Country

On Saturday, 250 girls from around Indiana converged on Terre Haute and the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course for the 45th Annual Girls Cross Country State Finals!

Brickie senior Cassie Cohen was racing at STATE for the 4th consecutive Fall. This year definitely meant a little more for Cassie considering she is a senior and the first EVER girl to become a 4-time qualifier in cross country! It's pretty AMAZING what can be accomplished when individuals are DETERMINED, FOCUSED and BELIEVE! Cassie has been determined, focused and always carried a strong sense of belief in herself ... and when she passed 10 people in the last mile a week ago at the Regional, those qualities SHINED BRIGHT and helped punch her ticket one more time!!

Since this was her last go-around at LaVern Gibson, she was running loose and soaking up the atmosphere on Saturday ... and as usual ... running with DETERMINATION, FOCUS and BELIEF!

Over the last 3 years, the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals have gotten faster and faster. The 2023 state finals was the fastest EVER with 60 girls breaking the coveted 19-minute barrier. In 2024, 69 girls broke 19 minutes, which means the 2024 race became the FASTEST EVER!! This year, 62 competitors broke 19 ... so 2025 was the SECOND FASTEST EVER!! WOW!! On Saturday, Cassie's finishing time was 19:25.8 ... good enough for 105th place in Indiana ... pretty darn AWESOME!

Cassie was PHENOMENAL ... just like she has been for the last 4 years!! She is a 4-time state finalist ... first girl to do that in Brickie HISTORY. She is also a 3-time All-Northwest Crossroads Conference performer and owns the 3rd fastest 5k time at Hobart!! WHAT A CAREER!!

*Thank goodness we get to cheer her on a few more times before graduation ... in the pool and on the track :)

CONGRATULATIONS Cassie! The entire Brickie Nation is VERY PROUD OF YOU!!! We'd also like to congratulate Coach A & Coach Teer on another FANTASTIC FALL and a 14th trip to Terre Haute in the last 19 years! AWESOME!!! There's no better place to finish the season than at State! What a great way to wrap up the fall IHSAA season of running for our Brickie harriers.

Football

For their IHSAA Class 4A Sectional semifinal, the Brickies went trick-or-treating down in DeMotte against the Kougars. Way back on September 12th, Hobart THUMPED KV 40-7. Could our boys do it again 7 weeks later?

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAARD ... YESSSSSS!!

This one could not have started any better as junior Stephen Miller caught the opening kickoff and raced 95 yards to THE HOUSE for a Brickie TOUCHDOWN!! WHOA BABY!! After the Brickie D-D-D-DEFENSE forced a Kankakee Valley punt, Hobart turned on the "ground game" and gave the hosts a heavy dose of senior Max Pickett, who scored 4 minutes later from 6 yards out to make it 14-0 midway through the first quarter! The two teams traded turnovers and then the Bricks got the ball back with around 180 ticks still left in the opening stanza. Once again, the Hobart offense turned to Pickett who DELIVERED with a 14-yard score to make it 20-0 Brickies!!

Over the next two quarters, our boys would score 3 more TDs ... a 2-yard plunge by Pickett, a 35-yard scamper by junior Aiden Kasch, and 29-yard pass from junior QB Aleks Tatum to Kasch ... and connect on a 23-yard field goal by junior Peter Janda to put this one away!

Final score: Hobart 43, KV 6

Pickett finished with 23 total carries for a whopping 240 yards & 3 TDs!! Yes, you read that right ... Max had over 200 yards rushing for the game! UNBELIEVABLE!! In fact, how about a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our Offensive Line for leading the way for Hobart to rush for 354 yards on the night! WOW!!

Junior Vontrell Jones led the defense with 10 total tackles in the win.

Hobart will host arch rival Lowell on Friday night @ The Brickyard for the IHSAA Class 4A Sectional 17 CHAMPIONSHIP! Kickoff is slated for 7pm ... admission is $8. BE THERE!!!
