We have had 10% of families complete our survey but we want more voices! Our goal is to get to 50%. Please complete the 3 minute survey.
Also our options based lockdown drill has been moved to Monday, October 27th.
We need your input!
Dear Freedom Families,
North Dakota Century Code requires all public and nonpublic schools to conduct fire, tornado, emergency disaster, lockdown, and options-based lockdown drills each year. At Freedom, we take safety seriously and go beyond the requirements to ensure both our staff and learners are prepared.
Each year, Freedom Elementary completes:
-
6 fire drills
-
2 tornado drills
-
1 hallway closure/lockdown drill
-
1 options-based lockdown drill
These drills help our staff and learners practice how to make quick, safe decisions if an emergency ever occurs.
On Monday, October 27th we will be conducting our annual options-based lockdown drill. Since the start of the school year, teachers have been having age-appropriate discussions during morning meetings about what to do during different types of drills. Learners who need extra support have been working with their case managers through social stories and skill practice to ensure they feel prepared and confident.
Classroom teachers have also been planning discussions that are developmentally appropriate for their grade level. Because every child is different, we encourage families to have follow-up conversations at home to reassure your child that school is a safe place and that these drills help keep everyone safe.
Please remind your child that conversations about drills should stay within the guidance of adults at school to help all learners feel comfortable and safe.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Caron, or myself. We appreciate your partnership in helping our Flyers feel safe and supported at school.

Chilly Weather is Here
The weather is cooler now, please make sure your learner has a jacket or sweatshirt to wear at recess. Also, make sure to LABEL these items as they are often found outside, in the gym or in the hallways. If they are labeled, it helps us get them back to their owners.
