Glenwood

Good evening Glenwood families,

The final week of January certainly reminded us that winter is still very much here! Thank you for your flexibility and support during this week’s flexible instruction days. We hope your children were able to enjoy the deep snow and frigid temperatures outside building snowmen or sledding, while we know many parents were busy shoveling driveways and digging out cars.

A special thank you goes to our facilities team for their long hours and hard work preparing Glenwood for our return. As cold temperatures continue for the foreseeable future, please be sure your children come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. While the snow isn’t melting anytime soon, we are hopeful to return to the playground next week.

Don’t forget, please encourage your children to wear Glenwood green tomorrow and show their school spirit! Have a wonderful weekend.

Best,

Josh Rehak, Principal

SOUPERBOWL OF CARING

Starting Monday January 26th thru Thursday February 5th:

Leading up to the Super Bowl: we will be collecting canned goods / non-perishable items to donate to the Media Food Bank

AT GLENWOOD: We will have collection boxes separated by grade level... each time your grade brings 100 cans, they will show a "TOUCHDOWN" on our scoreboard. The grade level with the most points wins!!!

DISTRICT WIDE - PENNCREST LACROSSE: All donations will be picked up Friday February 6th by Penncrest Lacrosse players. They will take all items to Penncrest and load a RTMSD school bus at 4 pm - then deliver the supplies to the food bank that afternoon. (Help them "STUFF THE BUS")

Third Grade Updates

Third grade is moving right along, with lots of learning happening despite the wintry weather.

In January, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by sharing our dreams for the world on white clouds and inviting families to share theirs as well. We believe it’s never too early to inspire students to help make the world a better place.

Our class also gave back to the community by collecting coins to purchase groceries for the Media Food Bank. Students enjoyed a meaningful experience of compiling a grocery list that best fit the needs of those in our community.

Our mathematicians have been busy multiplying! We are practicing strategies that strengthen math fact fluency, including the distributive and associative properties.

Critical thinking is an important focus in third grade, and students are applying these skills as they study Ancient Rome and explore the similarities and differences between the Roman Republic and the United States government.

Message from the Health Room

As a gentle reminder, we understand that injuries can occasionally occur at home, requiring your child to wear a brace or cast. In such cases, it may be necessary for them to be excused from Physical Education and recess activities.

If your child needs to be excused, a note must be provided by their healthcare provider detailing any limitations. This will allow me to communicate effectively with our team, ensuring that your child remains safe during their recovery.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Kind Regards,

Demi Shields BSN, RN, CSN
